I historically have used Power Pro Braid in the following line sizes :

• 10 lb. for Ned Rig (Spinning) 
• 15 lb. for Shakey Head ; Small Swim Baits (Spinning)
• 30 lb. for Top Water (Bait Cast)
• 50 lb. for Frogs (Bait Cast)

 

*I notice the X9 braid line diameters for a given pound test rating are very thin (as compared to Power Pro - which historically was the thinnest braid).

Not sure to buy the same line sizes as I used for Power Pro or go up a line size or two with the Berkley X9 braid ? 

I run 10# X9 in White on one of my crappie rigs. Seems strong enough, smooth and limp enough...I get great distance with a ML/MF rod and 1/10oz cranks.

 

I don't think you have to up-size any...just use the same #test you normally would.

 

Example of really thin line is Sufix Nanobraid....now THAT'S some thin line.

i started using x9 on all my spinning reels 2 years ago. works great for me.

I'm a big fan of x9, on spinning gear I run 10lb, on most casting gear I run 20 or 30lb. I don't see a need to adjust line sizes based on diameter. I have been very happy with it.

I use Berkeley X-9…… Mind you, I’m not a fan of braid. It is too noisy but X-9 seems to the quieter than most.

Its a good PE that readily available and not too expensive.  Love the white, just know that it will turn brown real quick if you fish muddy water.  Its really smooth and quiet, without relying on a waxy coating that will just wear off quickly.  It is a thinner dia PE, but take berkleys dia claims with a grain of salt, so dont worry about it being super vulnerable to abrasion.  I use #20 X9 on my surf rod to throw 1-2oz plugs off the rocks and it sends them.  I like #8 for FW and light inshore spinning gear.  #10 works really well too, but I haven't ever come close to breaking #8 on a fish and I like how well the #8 casts, especially with really light baits.  So long as you use a leader you shouldn't have to worry about issues with abrasion.

It and the X5 are great line. I run 5lb (?) on an ultralight and 15lb on a few general purpose spinning rods and am very happy with both. Holds its color well, casts great, no weird, random management issues or unreasonable abrasion/break offs. It’s just “really good” at anything I’d want a braid to do.

I changed over from 832 two years ago.  The smoothness and lower diameter.

X9 is really good line, but take their diameters with a grain of salt.  I run the 6lb and 8lb on my BFS and spinning reels.  They are #0.8 and #1.0 lines on the Goh scale which makes X9 a little thicker compared to the mm/in measurements also on the label.  Speaking of which, the Goh rating printed on the label seems to be more accurate than the mm/in measurements.  When compared side by side with my YGK Upgrade X8, they both look to be of a very similar diameter.  Other than the stated diameter, I have no issue with the line itself.  

Thanks for the replies - I'll research which line sizes I want for spinning / bait cast set ups and give it a try . I usually do not drop below #30 lb. braid on a bait cast set up for fear of line digging and do not go below #15 lb. on spinning as too thin a diameter can develop wind knots . I'd be willing to try #10 lb. X9 for a Ned Rig set up for extra casting distance with 1/16th oz. jig head + TRD .

Used to use #10 for bfs but i found it a bit too thick so i dropped to #8 which is a sweet spot for ultralight to light stuff. #8 just seems to be exactly 1 goh, which is japanese measurement standard (0.165mm - i find it is still thicker than advertised).

 

Overall, loving the line. Limber.

I’ve got the 8lb on one of my spinning rods - use it pretty much exclusively for dropshots, and I like it. I dig the flame green, better visibility to my less than perfect eyesight than the white I have on the others.

So, one month later, how do you like it?

Will have to buy flame green X9 online (no local stores carry) .
