I am really infatuated with the Daiwas and really want to get one, but my one concern is this.  I was at Cabelas caressing the Sol, Fuego, and Zillion the other day, and it seemed that my hand rested on the brake control knob on the left side.  I am worried about inadvertantly changing the setting when I set the hook, and I don't really want a reel that I have to keep checking the settings every other fish or so.  Is this a problem or am I just being to nit-picky?

i just purchased a viento & its nothing to worry about...the knob is tight enough that you have to use your thumb or fingertip to click it from 1 setting to the next...it doesnt just spin loosely around.

I fish with 3 TD-Zs and an Alpha, I haven't have this problem yet, ( I haven't have any problem at all, ever )

You won't have any troubles with the dial, as stated it's pretty tight and it's recessed far enough that you will need to deliberately change it.

Go buy one, without fear!!

When you were holding those reels did you try and turn the brake setting. You would have to be palming or holding awful tight, and moving the fingers across the knob a lot to get it to move and change setting while fishing.

I would say if those are the reels your interested in then by all means buy one of each..

I would be telling a lie if I told you I didnt have a problem.  I end up changing it with my left hand sometimes.  Its not often, but sometimes my left index finger will slide on it, and change the setting.  Its more appearent with my Advantage than with the Viento.  Honestly, its really not an issue though.

There isn 't much room there to inadvertedly change the setting of the knob.

I fish a Fuego and your scenario has  never happened to me. Great reels!

I really love some of the Daiwa models, also I own several and I don't think you will have much of a problem. Go for it, they're great reels!

get a left handed reel, then you won't have to switch hands.  It will never be an issue after that.

I fish with two Fuegos and two Advantage Super Tuned reels almost every time I go fishing. I have never had that problem and I am one who sticks it to them when it come to my hooksets. So don't worry about it. They are wonderful reels and I know you will love them. Those nobs are the reason I like the Daiwa Reels so much. There is nothing like being about to quickly make micro adjustments for the next cast.
