Refreshing some soft plastic baits?

Featured Replies

I have some soft plastic baits that have been in plano boxes and have dried out a bit. Does anyone have a good way to refresh soft plastics? I was thinking of putting them in a plastic bag and adding some type of non scented oil or something. I have learned my lesson and now keep my soft plastics in their original bags. Thanks.

I have some soft plastic baits that are over 25 years old.  Sealed from the air, they can last nearly forever.  They dry out if kept in those boxes.  Try transferring them to kitchen storage bags with some BANG and see if they come back.

My wife loves Liquorice, I smile everytime she opens it, & she wonders why.

100% pure anise oil can only be obtained from a pharmacy. And anise essential oils is not the same thing.

Baitmate comes from Wally World, clear is hard to find, so when I do I'll buy 2-3. The Classic will work 👌

Back in the day we bought it at the drug store.  Haven't done that in years.  People put pots in their boats so they could dip their baits in the stuff.   Very popular with Everglades night fishermen.   Today I use spray attractant like BANG.  I don't believe the smell is that significant.  Oils on your bait disguise bad smells like sunscreen and bug dope, they make the bait shiny and more natural looking and make it slide through cover better. I have tried most of the commercial attractants and they all work about the same for me.

Back in the day, we used to buy Mann’s scented Jelly Worm oil and add it to our baits. Companies like LureCraft still sell something similar, and you can combine it with other scents or add your own extract to it to get whatever scent you like. Just plain old mineral oil would probably work, too.

I found that Ziplocs and standard Poly bags 'sweat' after a while...so I just buy the same laminated bags the bait companies use.
