13 Fishing G2 Inception Reel or Daiwa Tatula CT

Featured Replies

I'm going to be putting together a spinner bait/chatter bait setup for next season and need to pick a reel.

I already have a Daiwa Tatula CT and it's been great. The 13 Fishing G2 Inception causes that itch in brain and I wanted to find out for those who use it, how it is it?

Thoughts on comparing both reels?

I'm thinking a 6.x:1 ratio would be good?

I had an Inception reel and really wanted to like it but could never find a use for it where I liked it. I'm sure it's a good reel and hear people saying they like it, but just wasn't my experience.

That being said,... I like Daiwas. But the CT isn't one of my favorites either. I just don't see a ton of gain over the Fuego.

If I were looking for a centrifugal braked reel in the $100 - $150 range I would be looking at the SLX line of reels and grab the best I could afford, starting at the SLX, then the XT, and the best being the MGL

Spend a little extra - get the Tatula 100. Other than the T-Wing, the Tatula CT is identical to the Fuego CT...same frame, spool, main gear, brakes.

It seems like I can get a decent gain by throwing another $30 at it, would that change your suggestions? Range up to $180?

I can swing the Tatula 100, IMO I will be using it a lot so that's not an issue. Is the main difference the HyperDrive?

Thanks @FrnkNsteen && @MN Fisher!

Once you tried hyperdrive you can’t go back to un-hyperdrive.

My brother has an Inception, Z, and A3. He loves them, and he has all the good stuff too. I've fished with them, and they're very good casters. Like any centrifugally braked reel you'll need to figure them out a bit as you're accustomed to a mag brake Daiwa. Once you're dialed in it'll be no problem. They're very compact, if you like that.

Honestly,.... Up to $180, for spinnerbait or chatterbait, I think I still stay with Shimano centrifugal braked reels, but maybe jump up to looking for a black friday deal on the Curado 150 MGL. I just like those reels for long casting moving baits.

Where the Daiwa reels shine for me is more around close cover like laydowns, stumps, or docks. The Daiwa braking system shines on cast control and the Shimano reels excel at long casting where accuracy amd cast control isn't as critical. In those instances, I like a good deal on a Tatula Sv, Tatula Elite, or work8ng up to the Zillions.

Just my opinion.....

There is nothing wrong with the Inception, gen 1 or 2. They are great reels.

Here is the deal. If you rely on the brakes in the wind? Pony up for a Tatula 100. If your thumb does the talking? The Inceptions rocks.

If you are considering a 13? You will hate the form factor of the CT. The 100? Very nice.

Period.
