I was loosing too many jigs in the rocks and designed my Viper head jig to stand the hook upwards and slide though rocks better then a football head. The viper head works good.

Great info! How does the viper head jig do fishing around rocks from the bank rather than from a boat? I don't use jigs much from the bank because I lose so many in the rocks.

Working any jig uphill is tricky in rocks. Key is don’t let the jig settle down in between the rocks and wedge between them.

The heavier a jig the harder it is to keep from snagging.

Yes I work my jig down, side and uphill depending what the seem to want at that time. The old rule is Spring up and Fall down for starters.

It’s fairly easy to shake a jig out of rocks with a boat as can change angles, from shore that isn’t possible.

I suggest going to a 3/8 oz jig in lieu a 1/2 oz for example.

So in early spring/late spring you position your boat shallow near the shore and make a long cast and work the bait from deeper water towards the shallow up the point?

And in the late summer/fall you position your boat over deep water and cast shallow and drag and let the bait fall down the point?

I took it to mean “bounce it off the ground, then let it fall back,” then AutoCorrect contributed to selective capitalization.

Viper head just sounds too cool to not want to try it.  🤷🏼‍♂️
