Featured Replies

been getting into fishing in the mandarin area. mostly on lake mandarin and also the pond at mandarin park. been using a black spinner jig (i think thats what it would be called) but not having much luck. any recommendations for bait for ponds/smaller lakes in this area? also what would you recommend for some julian creek? not sure if it would differ or not.

Grew up in mandarin/southside. Fished Julington a lot growing up. Also numerous ponds in the area.  I fish mandarin park a lot and don’t catch much in there either, although I got a 7 pounder there years ago.

Baits: I use texas rigged soft plastics with as little weight as possible. Flukes, senkos, yum dingers, UV speed worms ,trick worms, culprit worms, baby brush hogs, to name my favorites.

Julington is next to impossible if you don’t have a boat. If you do, get up in the canals and fish slowly with big, dark colored worms.
The bite has been pretty slow recently.  They are started to bed, and that will increase in the next 2 weeks.

If you have access to lake mandarin, fish there. I HAD access from a customer but never took advantage of it.  Be encouraged though, the area has plenty of fish to be caught!

Any good Texas rigged swimming worm in June Bug. Legend has it, you can catch bass in lakes, ponds, canals, and even on dry land with that set up anywhere in Florida.

yeah lake mandarin is where i live, havent had much success in the biggest part of it but ive been able to get lucky in a bunch of the run off areas. as well as the other ponds in the neighborhood. ive had the best luck with red and black culprit worms so far.

You live on lake mandarin? Or you fish the common areas?

Another area that has a lot of ponds with bass is Julington creek plantation. There are lots of bank fishing spots there.

Yeah, the red and black ( red shad)  culprit is  a top bait in our area.

Try senkos, flukes, and Uv speed worms too… watermelon colors usually produce well in the area…

In JCP, I just use common sense, which is mostly just staying out of people’s yards. I fished there consistently for 10 years in many of the common areas, and nobody ever bothered me…
