Berkeley big game fluoro

Featured Replies

Has anyone tried the big game fluoro yet? If so what experience have you had with it? Just by looking at it looks to be like the standard big game, it runs big in the line diameter for the pound rating so I’m sure it will be stronger than advertised. It seems like a really good price point, and if it’s half the line big game mono is it will be awesome

Didn't know it existed. For the price, I'd give it a try. I like Big Game mono for certain things.

I'm skeptical, Berkley made Vanish also. I'll wait to hear from others.

One local Walmart has it. Seems to be taking the place of the bulk spools of Vanish. I did pick up a 550 yd. spool of Vanish on clearance for $6.00. Probably overpaid. 😆 Tried the big game braid when it first showed up and had no problems with it. Nothing great, nothing bad. Decent braid for the money. Hopefully the big game fluorocarbon will be the same. Something like basix would be great but it could just be relabeled vanish.

I put this on my size 30 spinning reel today. I thought it worked great. I put on the 6 lb .010  diameter, so it worked just fine.

It came off the reel just line any other fluoro, and I thought it cast just as far as the rest of them.

Now I always reel up the spool, take it out to the park, tie the line to a tree and walk the reel all the way out and give it a good stretch, then I cut it from the tree and walk back to the rod and reel in the line so all the twist comes out.

With a cost of $10.00, for a 350 yard spool instaed of 200 yards for all the other brands, it is a fantastic deal.

I would highly recomend this line.

Ive always liked and used line from Berkley, from the XL-XT Trilene mono, then Big Game mono. Which i have dozens of big spools of so I was curious about the Big Game fluoro, after reading various reviews it seems to break rather easy, and theres talk about it getting very brittle and having bad abrasion resistance.

Ive been using Vanish as leader material for the past few years and thought it was alright, i got alot of it cheap compared to the other brands making fluorocarbon so i figured i was getting a deal.

But from doing some research lately on it and from several peoples comments about it on here i know realize how bad it actually is.

I also bought some Trilene 100% fluoro on sale last year for $3 a spool and yep that too is getting bad talk. Something about the line changing diameter throughout the spool and also having fibers coming off the line when spooling it onto reels.

Guess its time to find a different line of budget fluoro for me. But its not a huge deal since i can get something from Seaguar for a few bucks more....
