I'm trying to get some long fish for the Googan Squad tourney in the month of April.  Where do I have the best chance of catching larger fish in the central NC area, fish that are big but not SUPER hard to catch?  Many thanks!

Yeah, shoulda seen that one coming.  What do you typically use for the big bois?

Well it really depends on the conditions on the day that I'm fishing and the body of water and the cover I'm fishing.

 

But usually my 'repertoire of confusion' (thanks @Catt) consists of lipless crankbaits, lipped crankbaits, jerk baits (hard and soft), t rigged plastics, jigs, swimbaits, spinnerbaits, bladed jigs, buzzbaits, toads and frogs.

 

I generally try to mimic a bait fish in North Carolina but sometimes I mimic crawdads.

Farm pond might be your best bet

I would start chuckin' a Magdraft anywhere and everywhere. Here on the western Piedmont/Mtns they are in full prespawn dinner mode with a bunch already spawning. Just went with a buddy up to Watauga Lake for two days and caught a few 4s, a 5 and one that I swear was pushing 7. My biggest was on a 1/4 lipless but his were all on the Magdraft. On Norman, I have been doing well with a ned rig around docks. Unfortunately, I don't really fish much east of Norman. 

You want to go to Jordan Lake and catch prespawners. Great big fish lake.

There are definitely bigs in all the major lakes, and they are definitely hard to catch. I would avoid Norman and Hyco, they're more spots and less LM although they're in there I'm sure. 

High Rock and that end of the yadkin chain, the Greensboro lakes, mackintosh, Jordan, falls, michie, etc all have bigs. That's my region, if you go further east those Bodies of water have them too. 

Good luck catching them though 😎 every time I get skunked I'm that much closer to a DD! 

my luck lately has been chatterbaits and swimjigs near rocks and rip rap. We have also had swinging weather so I'm assuming I'm catching those who are looking to warm up on the rocks in the afternoon.
