Hey guys, this seems basic but l can't find an answer. The braillist is rated 3/8-1 oz. I throw a little of 1/4 or even 1/8 oz jigs with trailers and 1/16 shakeyhead. Will the braillist handle this well? Is there a better mega bass option?

Everyone will have their opinion and no one is wrong.

So with that said I own a Braillist and its a bit stout to go down to 1/4 inch jigs in my opinion.

I think its sweet spot is the 1/2 to 1 ounce.

Not sure about megabass alternatives, Im sure someone will chime in with an answer. I use a 872 nrx+ for the light stuff and leave the MB for the heavier.

 

Maybe th P5 X-bites if mainly on the lighter end? 

Those weights are too light for my Brailist.  X-bites is the rod in megabass.  I use a 71 MHxf Tatula for those weights and it's been great.

When I was first hunting for a BFS rod I looked at the P5 Bait Finesse.  I thought well it says Bait Finesse,  it should be a BFS rod. It turned out to be more of a Medium but not a ML. I didn't purchase it but what the OP asked about would be in this rod wheel house.  It's rated 1/4-5/8 and it has a softer tip. I tend to like my jig rods fast to x-fast.  This rod is definitely more of a fast but it is geared towards softplastic, like Texas Rigs and Shakey Head. I would think it would be fine for those weights in a jig but it's not one you're going to pull a monster out of thick cover with.

Xbites 100%. I’ve owned both. 

Bits looks awesome but was hoping to stay closer to 300 vs 500$. Is there any equivalent in the orochi line? Other rods? Spinning is great too. My bread and butter is a 1/4oz jig with z craw jr.

St. Croix Legend Elite or X 7’Medium

 

I have two and they are pound for pound my best casting rods. Not as utterly electric as an NRX but are close enough you’re not missing much. Pick one up used which transfers the warranty and you’re right in the range you’re looking for. 

Or go 110 Special. It’s labeled jerkbait but is a fantastic soft plastic jig rod around that weight. 

If Expired is an option, the 7'2" ML Casting rod would be perfect for that. 

As far as Megabass goes, I agree with everyone else on the X-Bites. You should be able to find a used one in the $300 range.

Where is a good classified section for rods?

If you can be patient enough, check the ALF used section once or twice a week. They rotate quality used rods and reels out often. I've seen excellent condition x-bites and other megabass rods many times over the last couple years.

Still happy with your Megabass Braillist? I’ve been contemplating of getting one, but I’ve noticed that it has become somewhat “polarized” lately. Based on customer feedbacks, there are some happy customers as well as people with nightmare stories. Is it still a solid dependable rod to have for jig fishing or should I look elsewhere? Perhaps I’ve been drinking too much tacticalbassin Kool aid because Matt Allen sounded very convincing

It’s still a good rod for full size jigs, but I don’t throw those much anymore. 

No more jig fishing or are you using a different jig rod? 

NRX+ 873 or Steez heavy cover special are my 1-2 punch for bottom contact now. 
 

I switched to smaller hooked jigs with compact trailers on the NRX and big stuff goes on the Steez. The generic full size pitching jig at a half oz or 3/4 just isn’t in my box anymore.
