Eric 26 Posted May 4, 2024 Posted May 4, 2024 I’m going to apologize for the lengthy story ahead and by saying thanks to all who read this. I feel compelled to share this story as a way to hopefully promote a local to me store that unfortunately will not help the vast majority on here but also shouldn’t be unheard imho. I recently was in “The Anglers Outlet” which is in Tinley Park Illinois buying a rod and asked if they performed reel repairs as the reel doesn’t justify the cost for me at least to ship to our more than capable site sponsor DVT and when I was told no an employee by the name of Josh asked what was wrong with the reel to which I replied that I broke/cracked the “nose”piece on my Piscifun Saex Elite and when I tried unsuccessfully to replace the part I also bent or installed wrong a washer that was causing a “sticking/stutter” point in the retrieve. Josh then asked if I had the reel which I did and he took it upon himself to not only take the reel home and replace the nose piece he reinstalled or bent the washer to eliminate the “sticking/stutter” point in the retrieve. I just picked up the reel yesterday and when I opened the box Josh included a hand written full page summary of everything he did to the reel and pointed out a few other issues the reel had and still has and although he didn’t fix them he pointed out the reel is still useable but will probably not last much more than a season or 2 which with the minimal amount I fish I’ll probably get 3-4 more seasons out of it before I retire the reel and replace it with another Daiwa or Shimano. The absolute kicker is when I picked up the reel yesterday Josh wasn’t there but when I asked how much I owe I was told there’s no charge, so this young man did all the work out of the kindness of his heart to help a fellow fisherman. I’ll end this by saying although I take advantage of deals and the current JDM market I will definitely be purchasing from the store much more in the future. 18 Quote

Super User islandbass Posted May 4, 2024 Super User Posted May 4, 2024 Wasn’t a long story at all. Local shops in my neck of the woods are practically nil. Also good to know that there are helpful and kind people like that. A little of that can go a long way. 👍😎 1 1 Quote

Umpteen years ago I purchased a G-Loomis GL3 9' 8wt fly rod, an STH reel and fly line for it on layaway. I'd go there to make a payment. Owner would let me take it out to practice. Would come out when he wasn't busy and give me casting instructions. Sure miss shops like that. 5 Quote

Super User king fisher Posted May 8, 2024 Super User Posted May 8, 2024 4 years ago I went to my local tackle shop to pick up a couple spools of fluorocarbon leader for offshore fishing. The manager of the store asked if I ever bass fished. I replied I have and would like to find a place I could catch some nice bass. He then showed me a picture of his wife with a bass that was between 11 and 12 pounds. He asked if that was what I considered a nice bass. When I told him it was a bass of a lifetime, and I had never even caught one half that size he said I should go to the small secret lake where his wife landed the trophy. He then proceeded to give me directions on how to get to the small lake, and told me it was OK to fish there, just don't keep any Tilapia. I later found out the lake was only fished by a small group of sport anglers, and had been a well kept secret for many years. I have landed 9 bass over 10 pounds in the past 4 years at this lake, along with many over 8 pounds and have never seen more than a couple other anglers on even the most busy weekend day's, and most days I never see any. Giving me the location of this lake qualifies as the best customer service of my life. Even if I bought every lure in his store, I would still feel in debt to him. 5 Quote
