One of my favorite YouTubers is ndyakangler and in some of his older videos I’ve seen him use a 5’10 m/xf st croix LTB rod for fishing bitsy bugs.  I know for bigger jigs that a mh-h casting rod is ideal but I’ve always liked using a spinning rod for bottom contact.  So I have a victory 6’8 m/xf and an avid 6’6 m/f and was wanting to use one for smaller finesse style jigs.  Which would you guys use and what is the max you would go on jig weight? 1/8, 3/16 or 1/4?  I definitely don’t want to overload the rod.  I was also wondering about jig styles and brands because I’m having a hard time finding ones with a light wire hook in lower weight.  I figure it would be smart to not have a thick wire, heavy duty hook using a medium rod.  Thanks guy! 🙏 

I've neglected my spinning rigs for a couple years, but I used the avid m/f and ml/f for just about everything back in the day, including chatterbaits.  There should be plenty of backbone there for you.  I'd easily go 3/8oz if the trailer isn't too bulky.

Another way to look at the top-weight rating is the butt power for turning and handling fish.  

I fish rods that will cast below 1/16 oz, yet are rated to 5/8 oz top end.

Here's how - while this rod will cast and fish a trout lure, a trout rod won't land this fish.

Either would work but the M/XF would be a dandy for small jigs.  A bitsy flip is about the heaviest hook I'd plan to use but it will work with a little heavier wire, especially if you're fishing braid to leader. 

 

If you want an interesting one, check out sieberts lil' man jig.  I picked up a couple last year and they are great little jigs.

Probably 3/8 since above that most jigs will have a heavy hook.

I bought some santone finesse jigs from tackle warehouse earlier in 3/16oz. I figure with that and the trailer I’ll be at or a little over 1/4 and maybe I will hit that middle ground just right.

My go to for my spinning rig when Im throwing jigs.

 

On the cheap I like the Dobyns 703.

But the best bottom contact spinning rod in my arsenal is the NRX+ 852 or a little bit heavier the 872
