Frog Split Ring

The right side of my brain managed to contribute something for once. Here’s my idea. Frogs are hard for me to walk. What if I add a split ring? Spro power rings rated for 50#? Any risk of these rings cutting into braid palomar?

It will make it harder to walk. The ring will catch any little piece of grass. It will also weight the nose down and you won’t get a clean walk.

What if grass ain’t thick? You really think the split ring is going to weigh the frog down that much? I have some frogs that are butt-weighted, too. The split ring will offset these weights

You will need to use a larger diameter slit ring to install onto a frog hook large dia wire.
Another option is use a strong surgeons loop knot.

What split ring do you recommend, if you recommend one at all?

Braid Surgeons loop knot works good.

I can tell you that a snap which weighs about half as much as any split ring id consider putting on a frog is enough to pull the nose down on other walking baits. I learned that one this spring with my dad and I throwing the exact same bait side by side. I swapped to a loop knot and immediate result in the action. That’s what I’d do if you really want to try it.

Or you could just learn how to walk one for real.

I would be more worried of the line sliding between the ring & then possible cutting it.

The route I have determined based on y’all’s helpful input is to go loop knot or tie regular knot. The right side of my brain continues to disappoint me.
