st croix //// avid or premier cranking stick ???

Featured Replies

witch on guys ????? i need a cranking stick ,,, just sound off if you have one or used one in the past .... i mainly want to fish shallow cranks and would like a stick to do just that ... help  ;D

I've used premiers for the past 5 years and had great results with them, never had an issue.  Worth the money.

IMO, I wouldnt shell out the cash for the Avid for a crankbait rod. to me sensitivity is not all that important in a cranking stick. I would look for something in a medium power moderate action premier if it were my money.

dang ,,,, River you just thought the same exact thing i was .... see i wouid get an avid for say a jig or senko rod .... but a cranking stick .... i dont know thats why im asking ..... :-/

This topic is the same thing I have been going through.   If you want a glass  rod the premier is made in a glass but the avid is not.  I personally decided on the avid.  Now I'm thinking should I spend the other 50 bucks and get  the legend tournament?  Most my other rods are legend tournaments.

Let me add one more to your list!! PREMIER/AVID/LEGEND TOURNAMENT

Most my other rods are legend tournaments.

Are these the blue bass rods st. croix came out with last season?

yes they are .... well in that case maybee ill go with the avid .... i want a graphite rod not a glass ... i just think a glass rod would be a little slow for my tasts .....

yea legend tourney rods are on my list ... i also have a few legened e-lites ...  just wanted a few opnions is all  :-/

I heard those blue st. croix bass tournament rods are pretty much the same thing as the premeirs except they are blue. ha ha.

I crank with the Avid 6'6" MH Mod. It's great for any size crankbait from a 1/4 oz Rat-L-Trap to a Mann's +30. The handle has a shape that fits my hand just right and has more guides than the Premier.  Also for a MH rod the blank has a smaller diamiter than the Premier. I think it's worth the extra $ IMHO.

I to am going though the same porblem. I am planing to do alot of 8 to 15 cranking this yrear. Love st.croix rods but how would an avid  7' MH fast action do for this type of fishing?

I like graphite cranking rods because it allows me to feel crankbaits ticking the tops of vegetation and I can react quicker to keep the crank from hanging up.  I know some people prefer fiberglass because the fish strike is felt a split second slower and it keeps them from jerking the crankbait away from the fish.  If you are concerned about doing this with a graphite rod, use a medium action with a fast tip and wait a second to gently set the hook.  I would think either of the rod models mentioned in this thread would be a fine cranking rod.

If you want a glass rod the premier is made in a glass...

The premier series has 5 graphite and 2 glass models.   the ones that begin with "PC" are graphite and the ones with "PGC" are glass.
