Need Help To Find Reel Repair For Cabelas Prodigy

Featured Replies

I just got off the line with Cabelas as I have 2 Cabela Prodigy Baitcasters. I have used them for about 3 years and they need some attention. They are great reels but need cleaned, oiled, ect. Cabelas said "We do not work on or repair reels, even our own brand."

When I asked them who was their authorized agent, they said they did not have one but there is a reel repair facility in FL. I could check with--DUH--I can not believe Cabelas will NOT stand behind their product!!!

Does anyone know of a reputable repair facility to take care of the Cabelas Prodigy Baitcasters?

I can see no more Cabelas products in my future!!! :-[

I hate that for you.  There is nothing worse than a company not standing behind there own products.  Thanks for the heads up.

Daiwa, Shimano and several others list this place (Paul's Bait & Tackle *  4421 Chippewa  St. Louis  MO  63116  USA  314-773-6221) in MO as an authorized service center.  Your reels are most likely rebadged Pinnacles.  I would call this place and see if they can help you.  If not, I would even try calling BPS Outdoor World reel repair.  They are at 417-873-5274.

Sorry for your troubles.  I hope someone can get you back in the game.

Are those prodigy reels white or silver/gold?

If so they are made by Pinnacle.

I had 2 pinnicale reels crap out on me 2 years ago. Took them to my local reel shop. they can fix anything. They called Pinnacle for parts. Pinnacle said they do not ship out parts, but to have me send the reels to them. both reels were in baggies, in parts. sent them in, 2 weeks later had 2 new reels back from Pinnacle. They even ugraded the reels to newer high models.

If they are the reels I am thinking of and need repairs I would contact pinnacle.

One of my buddies bent the handle on his he brought it to the Cabela's in Hamburg.they said it affected something else in one week he had his reel backed fixed. I believe they all should do that

Thanks for the info. The reels are silver and hold trimmed. Great reels, they just need a tune up. I will check into the sources listed and keep you posted.

Maybe a PM to reelmech.  He may not be able to touch it but if anyone can, he would know who that person is.

Contact Reel Mech from this site the next time you need reel service.

He cleans and repairs reels and the guys say he is fantastic.

I plan to send my reels to him after this year's season is over.

I already talked to reelmech and he does not work on them either. It appears I am about stuck with disposable Cabelas $100 reels. :-[

You can get on the silstar website and they have a service center in GA.  Call them and discuss it with them.  I am sending 2 of mine in and they said it will be $15 plus parts if needed. PM me if you have any questions.

Like I said and Fatman1267. contact Pinnacle(Silstar) and they will mostlikely help you out. Most reels shop will not fix them because Pinnacle does not send out parts.

Yeah hit the reelmech up.  he just finished one of my reels.  It is superb!

Go to the "home" page and click on Links/rods and reels. Scroll to the bottom and there you will find the dope for 4 reel repair/service outfits. Might find some help right there. I have used both Reelmech and Foran. Reelmech has 2 of my reels right now.

BassChaser57,

This is a major problem with "House Brand, and Signature Brand reels. The house will not stand behind them, you have to figure out who built them, contact the manufacturer and hope they will stand behind the reels. Some don't.

The Prodigy says it has the Magforce®-Z auto magnetic anti-backlash, this sounds like a Daiwa® reel, only the Daiwa's can claim that they have the Magforce®-Z auto magnetic anti-backlash.

Tight Lines!!!

Hey Reel Mech thats the new Prodigy's and it says it now right on the reel Made By Diawa for Cabela's the older ones were made by Pinnacle

It is official,

Cabelas will not repair their reels or have a repair facility to work on them. I called the facility Cabelas gave me (after the third call) and they said they could not repair Cabelas reels "as Cabelas was not forthcoming with parts." I suppose I will use the reels until they break and make an artificial reef with them.

So much for Cabelas customer Service.

PLEASE BE AWARE--When you get something from Cabelas you take it like you take your wife--it is yours for better or worse.

When those Prodigy reels first came out I made the mistake of buying a couple.  They would cast a mile and I liked that little flipping switch.  Neither of them lasted a year.  I contacted Cabelas and sent them back, they replaced them.  When the third went kapoot I called Cabelas back.  They looked something up on their computer, gave me a reference number and told me to send them back.  They gave me store credit for the full price.

This is exactly why I tell my friends to avoid the store-branded reels.

Hmm...

You might want to consider joining the possee. I have never had that problem with Shimano.   ::o

I now have a Curado and Calais so I won't have the problem with Shimano.

Enough of the rant.

I will lick my financial wounds and buy 2 more Calais and off to the new fishing season I go. 8-)

Not really a knock on Pflueger, but I wonder about their reels as well.  Has anyone had to have their reels serviced?

Yea Burley most of my local friends use Both Spinning And Baitcaster reels amde byu Pfluegfer. Most of them get them cleaned and serviced yearly with no problems.

I just got a BPS reel, I aint looking fowar to this now. However i have the One BPS and The Prodigy both at very cut prices to learn on and will graduate back up to Pflueger as time goes on>

Not local service, but service from Pflueger.

One reason I stick with Daiwa and Shimano is that you can pretty much count on the companies being around for the long haul.

I know Pflueger advertises that they've been around since 1881, but the only time I can ever remember hearing the Pflueger name before the last few years is from my grandfather.  He had an old old Pflueger casting reel.
