Do/should guides actually fish when you pay for a guided fishing trip?

Now that's not a guide for he didn't guide you to anything.

He's a pretty solid one. Only casts to get information about the bite, once he gets some feedback it's all about changing out the customers setups for what's getting bit. He'll hand you his favorite combo while his ties yours. I enjoy watching him fish because I learn from it.

The (different) guy I caught my PB with basically only got me to the spot, I chose my bait, I chose my depth line, I tied all my own stuff. I would have never caught that fish if I'd been doing what he was doing. The last time we went out he caught three over 5, neither myself nor my buddy had a single bite. That was a long 8 hours and we haven't been back out with him since. Just felt like he phoned it in that day. I'm not usually the one paying, typically just a +1 in the back of the boat.

“no problem. That’s just $75 worth of line"

This would have had me asking to go back to the ramp right away. Is he casting with spun gold and an umbrella rig of vision 110s? Should almost always be using big game mono or tritanium IMO, that's maybe 8 bucks for 1000yd of the big game or 14 for 1100yd of tritanium. Should be built into the guide rate and never mentioned

  • I’ve never had a guide that fished while guiding. If I did, I’d probably ask to be returned to the dock. If we’re gonna fish like buddies in your boat, I’ll throw you gas money, but not a penny more.

  • This question always makes me laugh.  Let me just say this after being a guide for 25 years.  If I didn’t fish and you didn’t catch any fish, you would accuse me of being a terrible guide.  99% of the

I’ve done some guiding and I usually do some fishing at the same time. I try to figure out if something is working better than what I gave whoever I’m guiding and switch them if something is getting m

I've hired a guide a couple of times, once in Savannah to catch a redfish and the other in Mexico for bonefish.  The Mexican guides were really helpful in seeing fish and telling me where to cast my fly.  I brought my own outfits. The Savannah guide provided a casting reel with 65 lb braid for a 2 lb redfish.  When I caught a small shark he told me not to touch it when I grabbed it and removed the hook.  Like Swamp Girl I'll put the boat in the best position for my guest to catch a fish and recommend exactly where to cast.

I’ve caught many in Florida on a Rattletrap, particularly the St. John’s river. Chrome/ Blue back. More than a few in the 4 to 6 pound range but all the big girls always came Flippin hydrilla on take your pick lakes lol.

There have been times on the Harris Chain when if you weren't fishing a Rattle Trap you weren't fishing.  Most of these times were back when the water was murky.  Since the water has cleared, the Rattle Trap bite has diminished significantly.  Almost all of my double digit bass came flipping heavy cover.
