Nitro z20 battery issue

There seem to be a lot of options available, and I’m trying to figure out the best course of action. If you were in my shoes and had two batteries that both tested good, but they’re from Interstate and have received poor reviews, what would you do?

I don’t want to just waste money replacing them, but at the same time, I want to avoid potential issues when I’m out on the water. I typically spend 8-10 hours out there and need reliable power for the entire trip.

Would it make sense to invest in a deep cycle battery, and get rid of one of the interstate?

First thing I would do is cancel the 1K payment made to BPS for the labor and batteries, hopefully you used a credit card !!  You could use one if the interstate batteries for a start only battery, charged by your outboard.  You do need a good deep cycle battery for electronics only, charged by a charger.  If your running a trolling motir, you will need deep cycle batteries for that trolling motor, depending on the draw and voltage requirements.

I would have a serious talk with the BPS service manager as they definitely screwed you over !

You're probably not going to see any drastic improvement going from AGMs to lead acid deep cycles. I'd suggest running a single 100ah+ 12v lithium starting battery for the motor + graphs which should give you more than plenty of power. I currently run Ionic but I've heard decent things about the much cheaper LiTimes. If you're looking at spending another $200+ on 2 new group 31 batteries you might be just better off going with a single lithium. Something is wrong with either your wiring or batteries though, definitely should not be having power issues with 2 group 31s in parallel.

Thank you for adding the battery photo.

Photo showing all the batteries installed would help to clarify your boats battery set up. If these are the only batteries installed then you are missing a trolling motor battery or you have a 12V trolling motor.

I can’t see heavy gage wire connecting the 2 batteries. The individual batteries should have 50 amp circuit breaker connected to the red wire.

If the batteries are connected red  post  to red positive post and black negative post to black negative post they are wired parallel producing 12V or they are 2 separate 12V batteries, one for starting the engine the other running the trolling motor. The starting or cranking battery is normally used for electronics, the trolling motor battery should not be used for electronics because the voltage drops running the TM.

Your boat should have 2 deep cycle marine batteries wired in series to produce 24V for the TM. Additional 12V marine 12V cranking battery to start the engine and run your electronics. Some boats have an addition 12V marine battery to operate the electronics or 4 batteries.

The 2 batteries in the photo are dual purpose deep cycle marine group 31 and may be used as cranking battery and running electronics, not the trolling motor.

How many batteries does your boat have?

$1,000 us about right for the 2 batteries and installation for cranking and a additional house battery, does not include trolling motor batteries.

Tom

PS, I understand paying to have your boat set up properly. This is a higher end bass boat and battery knowledge is an on going, suggest you go online and educate yourself about bass boat batteries.
