I was changing baits on a Curado X70 XG.  I was setting the tension and it wouldn’t work.  I took the bushings out from behind both spool bearings and turned them over.  That didn’t work.  I change the spool and nothing happened.  I can’t tighten it up any farther.  I am guessing it must be connected to the bearings.  I want to use it tomorrow.  Any ideas?

I went back and took the bushing out of the knob side and put the thickest copper bushing that I have.  I wonder if I should order a new spool?

Fish it that way.  None of my Shimanos have any spool tension and are zero adjusters.  Also long as you didn't spool on a slinky you should be fine.

I agree,.... I always set mine just enough to eliminate side to side play.

Is it not tightening up enough to do the slow fall method of adjustment? In the past, I have cut a small piece of clear packaging material off a box or something and put that inside the cap.

Since then I have just gotten used to running with just enough to eliminate side play and no actual tension

I say go with what it gives you, turn on more brakes and fish it that way.

Not trying to brag or anything like that, but I started using baitcasting equipment young, and just use my thumb to control most everything. I usually set everything about middle, and rarely ever touch. Spool tension is always very loose, just enough to eliminate side/side movement.

I have at least 15 Shimano bait casters.  I’ve been using Shimano for more than 20 years.  This is the only one that has ever had a problem any where like this.  I fish 7 different weights of shaky on this setup.  Exact adjustment is critical.

How tight are you trying to run it? Spool tension has nothing to do with bearings. If indeed it’s not working properly you have missing spacers or the cap is cross threaded not tightening. Is there lateral play on the spool?
