Spinnerbait wire length

I know this is many years late but I make my own spinnerbaits taking over for my dad. I have been diving deep into optimizing every part of the bait and am on arm size now doing testing and research. I was wondering if you would share some of your findings on arm length either publicly or privately with me, I am going to the point where I am looking at anatomy of a bass mouth so I’d say I’m a fanatic about this stuff like you.

I prefer the front of the blades to be even with the front of the head. Is that what you are asking?

Spinnerbait frames are made in standard sizes and will be listed as R3, TW4, etc. R is for R bend and TW is twisted loop which are the most popular. The number behind it corresponds to a specific head and arm length. For example, a standard War Eagle spinnerbait is an R3 while the Screaming Eagle is a R2. Bigger the number the bigger the frame size and 95% of bass baits use a 2-4 frame.

 

Wire type and diameter are the next thing to tackle once you figure out frame size.

I dont know if its right but for a standard bait i1/4 to 3/8 i do 1.5” nead to bend and 2.5” bend to tailend. I shoot for the back blade to start roughly at the hook point. Thought being when a fish attacks the back blade he will be inline to get the hook. I fish smallies in current and stick with a 3/O hook though. Again just how i do it. I also stay on the smaller side with ss camo wire and dont fish a trailer often.

This is LPO's suggestive chart for frame sizing. R3 is the most common size frame for most 3/8 to 3/4oz spinnerbaits on the market.
