Hey everyone 

Does anyone know off hand what is the line lb and capacity or a ABU Garica 5000 and 6000? I googled it and it is all over the board.

It's a lot. If I were a guessing man the 5000 would be close to 150-160 of 20# and 190-200 yards of 15# big game. The 6000 probably 200 yards of 20# big game.  I don't think it is much different then the capacity of 5500 or 6500 Abu's.  It all depends on the line diameter.

Yes, 5000 spool and 5500 spool are close-enough to the same capacity, etc.

Thank you @bulldog1935 this info helps. I’m going to use these reels for trolling, going to put 50lb braid and about 15-20 lb 7ft + leader.  
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Since you're not casting, you should fill it up.  

 

My reels below, the logic is long runs from mackerel and cobia.  Also extreme eyesight of these fish.  While fluoro invisibility doesn't get a lot of respect on BR, it can be all the difference for fish looking up.  Nylon mono absorbs UV, making a shadow, while fluoro transmits UV.  Then of course, especially in the salt, fluoro has a sink-rate advantage because it's 70% denser than the water, and 60% denser than mono.  

 

This is my trolling reel (Seigler SGN), which has 350 yds 40-lb braid, with 25 yds of 30-lb Seaguar blue on top.  The lure is Halco 110, kinda famous for taking kings even sitting still.  

 

 

I also have a slow-jigging reel which can double up for trolling.  This one I use for casting, but it's casting 1-4 oz dropped on a slow flutter around platforms.  It's backed with 200 yds 30-lb braid, and 50-yds 20-lb Seaguar blue on top.  Spiral-wrapped rod.  Caiman 150 is Ambassadeur 6000 size.  

  

If they are “ filled up” will they, (the 5000 and 6000), hold  the 300 yards?  I will get some fluorocarbons. I’m trolling for stripers, been using a low profile bait casters. I just want to have dedicated rigs for trolling.

200 yds of 20-lb mono is the best capacity estimate I've seen for 6000 (not 6000C, etc).  

I would plug that into the Pattaya Calculator, pick the diameter you want to load, and it will give you the spool capacity.  

 

Since you're using them for trolling, you should consider multicolor braid since you'll be able to get a rough calculation of how much line is out.  This will let you find a happy medium between depth and speed so you can pull bait past suspended fish.  You'll also get a much better calculation of how much line is on the spool.  Much of the multicolor stuff is metered and will change color every 5 or 10m.  Most of the Great Lakes guys use multicolor in the absence of a line counter.

Haven’t been catching that size around here, they are babies compared to that one.

@redmeansdistortion, thanks for the info about the metered braid, will start looking for some inexpensive stuff. These two rigs will get used once a year during when, and if the stripers come up the river. This year, the hurricanes messed everything up, even the shrimp stayed away.
