I know they released the SLX 70 "A" to add MGLIII and Silent Tune. I believe it's also now a true 70-size frame. 

The Curado MGL 70 K is several years old now and at MSRP I'd argue the SLX is a better buy. 

If so, any idea what features it would have over the SLX? Or will they even bother? 

I would be surprised if they do, I think it would be discontinued along with the Chronarch MGL but they ever do update it, I hope it includes the MGL 3 Spool, 6 pin SVS infinity, Silent tune and a different color. I also hope they won't mess with the platform too much since it's the best palming reel I have.

Why? 2024 SLX A 70 already has what you need at a lower price point.

I really want to get both the Curado and SLX in hand to compare... the feel in hand is everything for jerkbaits and topwaters so I'd sacrifice some features if it felt better.

That's part of my question... what would a new Curado 70 include that the SLX 70 A doesn't? Maybe the answer is nothing (for now) and that's why we won't see one soon. 

Shimano updating the SLX 70 before the Curado was probably them answering that question. 

The curado 70 has been out for nearly 10 years.  They updated it recently as the Curado 70K MGL but it's the same platform as the 70i with the addition of mm gears and an MGL spool.  This isn't unusual by any means.  Daiwa still makes the original 2014 Tatula as the Tatula HD and ran the OG Alphas from like 2004 to 2019 in many, many versions.  If it ain't broke then don't fix it and the Scorpion/Curado 70 isn't broken.   Same applies to the SLX and I don't see it going away anytime soon either.  What we have been seeing is a slight watering down of higher end platforms and branding them as new SLX variants.   This is something I can get behind vs the trickling up of lower end platforms into higher end reels like we saw with the Curado G and Tatulazillions.  This must be a bike parts company thing but I like it.

Youre asking why do they have a slx and curado lineup instead of just slx? Well, curado has xship, micromodule, c14+ mainly. That is why?

I'm a long time curado user. I recently picked up an SLX and now I can't get rid of it fast enough.

 

The curado has better brakes.

 

Not sure if Shimano is improving the SLX brakes, but that remains to be seen.

The SLX 70 and the Curado 70 both have 4-pin SVS brakes with external adjustment. I prefer the larger external dial on the SLX 70, personally.

SLX 150 will stay with 6 pin SVS braking with no external dial. If you want an SLX series reel with the SVS Infinity with external dial, then you have SLX XT and SLX 70 to choose from.

2025 ICAST is here, and I'm not surprise that there's no new Curado 70 and new Chronarch.

I just looked at the comparison of the 150M, just announced (150 mgl with the mgl iii spool) and the slx 70a on the Shimano site. For $60 more here’s what you get: .2oz lighter (6.7 vs 6.9), “more” drag (13lb vs 12), larger spool capacity in the Curado, 1 more inch of ipt (29” vs 28) and 2 more bearings (6 vs 4). Now, this was just the quick comparison chart on Shimano’s site. YMMV

I can't say about the new stuff. My comment was based off the particular SLX 151HG I have as compared to my Curado HG's. Not the same brakes at all. Newer SLX reels may be improved. I'm not sure. Been out of that game for a few years now. I picked up a used SLX on a rod I wanted in a deal. Keeping the rod, but not the SLX.

 

If it had the same brakes as my curado's I'd probably keep it.

You're talking about the base model SLX, which has the 6-pin VBS with no external adjustment. The SLX XT and SLX MGL (or newer SLX 70) have the SVS brakes like the Curado.
