SC53 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Does anyone use them for fishing? I’m looking for lightweight gloves that help with gripping the rod and these seem like the perfect solution. I’ve played golf so I’m familiar with their ability to help grip the club. I know they make a rain version that increases grip when wet. Quote
Reel Posted January 7 Posted January 7 I use cycling gloves because the palm is padded and gives more protection... so why not ? Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted January 7 Super User Posted January 7 https://egolfgloves.com/usgrain.html I wear these year round. 2 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted January 7 Super User Posted January 7 if you have them, wear them. I started wearing gloves 2 summers ago and I'm pretty hooked. I went with the AFFCO ones (fingerless, with the rubber grippies on the palm) and have now worn them out over 2 seasons (the rubber is coming off). I got a new pair from somewhere else for christmas. I wouldn't buy golf gloves, but if you have them why not. Quote

They dont last long like he said, but if bought on sale thats about $10-15 for a year or 2 of use The UV protection they offer is great, the grip is better, but the fingerless part is the key. Ive fished with all sorts of gloves, nothing works like they do when it comes to retying. If youve got some older golfing gloves not in use, cut the tips off and get fishing. (not now of course but in the spring/summer). Just make sure whatever you use is able to be washed, these things take up alot of sweat, and the smell of fish very easily. Quote
Super User Spankey Posted January 7 Super User Posted January 7 I fish with the stubby finger fish monkeys. I like them. Not much of a winter glove but great with grip. I tried some golf gloves back a few years ago to shoot trap and sporting with. Did like that ultra light weight of them but between sweat and wood for-ends and stock checkering and touching shells they didn’t hold up well. 1 Quote

They are all that I use except for beaded jerseys on really cold days. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted January 7 Super User Posted January 7 I fished two days with a guide in So FL once for largemouth and peacocks. I'd guess I caught 100 fish. Second day my hands were like hamburger. I told him he needed to carry golf gloves ion different sizes to ease the suffering. I discovered Chap stick works great for chewed up hands. 1 Quote

I have a pair of their heavy offshore ones I wear when I go saltwater but they are way too heavy for bass fishing. I have Simms sun gloves but they just don’t have the “ grip power” I’m looking for. That’s my main reason for thinking about golf gloves is their gripping power. They feel almost tacky on a gold club. Quote

These are what i use the most, good grip, padded enough to keep my hands comfortable while paddling all day. But most of these gloves wont give you that tacky feeling you want, try some rod grip wrap. Or wrap something like Goon Tape or tennis handle tape around it. This will give you what you want even without gloves. Quote

This is two full years and about 80 trips of use. They get washed in the washing machine every couple trips with my fishing shirts. 2 Quote
DinkDonkey30 Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I use Loxley gloves when it’s cold. I also use them when I bow fish. Nice light tight fitting with a textured palm and fingers. Quote

I get two years out of them. my Peacock guide on the Amazon had the same size hands so I gave him a pair. super good grip. kinda pricey. but I launder them often and still get the two years. I am about to try the Orvis fly fishing ones to save a $20. 1 Quote
billm6767 Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Before I would use Golf gloves I would go to a uniform/police supply house and get a set of bates patrol gloves. They are short thin tough leather gloves designed to be worn on patrol. They would be alot tougher than golf gloves and still give you the feel you need. 1 Quote
