Do you still have OG reels in your rotation?

Wasn't the reel too wild during a cast? If so, reducing the braking force would make it even worse.

I have had this happen on one sv spool as well, but what happened is the opposite, it applied too much braking force, and i couldn't cast anywhere near normal distances.

That sounds like a stuck inductor.  The other issue is that the base will break free from the spool and will allow the braking force of the magnets and inductor to rotate the entire Air Brake assembly on the spool instead of transferring that braking force to the spool.  It's a weird thing because of the friction of the assembly on the spool shaft is enough that the spool will behave normally under light casting conditions and only revel itself on a hard bomb cast.  It's actually these hard bomb casts that did in my black ramp 17 Tatula SV Air Brake base.  I sheared the little plastic pegs right off the base that clips into the spool.  I just disassembled it and super it glued it to the spool.

Are these OG reels?  I have another green Curado in the boat on my A-rig rod.  I do have several Zillions, Tatulas, and a newer Curado that are at the top of my arsenal but I still use all of these re

  • Not sure how to answer that question. How exactly do you expect, say, a reel from 2005 to perform when compared to a reel from 2023? From the Daiwa side, older reels (everything is related to the spoo

Stuck inductor will only get you an unusable reel with older, thinner inductors like the Type R tapered inductors and so on. Less of an issue on SV spools because the inductors are thicker and taller, and even while stuck, have enough braking force when fishing at higher adjustements on your mag dial.

And those plastic bases on sv spools break so often, Daiwa should just fix em to the spool with epoxy, or something. No reason not to.

As I mentioned....I don't recall what he did to the reel.  I have the information in a file on my laptop that I haven't been able to use for about two years now.  I do remember his mentioning working on (or changing?) the spring to reduce braking force.  I don't think it was the brake causing the backlashes/overruns.  I doubt the glue lost its effect on a brand new reel.

EDIT:  This happened from the first time I used the reel.

A daiwa TD-Fuego and a curado 51e are still in the standard rotation.  They keep working and I don't feel limited by them compared to my newer reels.

Can I ask a question without getting ridiculed?  What does OG stand for?  If it has to do with older reels then I qualify:

(2) Chronarch 100 (pearl white)

(2) Chronarch 200E (1-E7, 1-E6)

(1) Curado 200E7

(1) Citica 200E

(1) Curado 100B

(1) Calcutta 150

OG- Original Gangster and as a term of respect.

OG" is an abbreviation for "original gangster" or "original".It's a slang term that originated in the 1970s in Los Angeles gang culture. Today, it's used more generally to describe someone or something that's authentic, exceptional, or "old-school".

I currently am preparing to clean up one of my TD Zillions, put some oil on the bearings and install a fresh set of Carbontex drag washers. It was instilled in me at a young age “if you take care of your equipment, it will take care of you“ and for me it continues to ring true. I still can’t seem to stop using my OG Curados.

As Mr. Bricker said 'original'.  The TD Fuego mentioned in the post above yours was the original Fuego and listed for $229.95.  The later Fuego CT listed for $99.99.  I haven't touched a CT, but had 3 of the TD ones before giving one to a brother.  Purchased 2 new ones on closeout in March, 2009.  Lovely reels.  Won't be selling or giving away the two I have left.

I really like the TD Fuegos. The first two I bought were RH models because I didn't know they also made them in LH. I have those two RH versions mounted on a matching pair of Mojo 7' MH-MF "Spinnerbait" rods throwing whopper ploppers. I cast with either hand so they work fine for zinging those ploppers out there They cast great and reel back smooth.

When I saw my first LH on that big auction site, I snapped it up and have stumbled across another one since. I have both of them set up on swim jig rods at the moment. Love those earlier "Pre-Twing" reels. I think the Twing was a solution to a problem that didn't exist!

I think many under-rated the TD Fuego....other than those that actually fished one.  Given a choice of the same reel with a T-Wing or without it, I'd chose the one without the T-Wing.

The TD Sol was out at the same time and seemed to be preferred over the Fuego.  I have 2 of the Sol reels, but for some reason prefer my other Alphas reels.  Can't pinpoint a reason why.

The TD-X HSDF is one of several reels I've yet to fish with.  I just happen to have a spare Zillion spool.  Is it an improvement over the standard spool?  Can't remember if mine is the 100 or the 103.  Still need to sort through all my boxes after the move to Florida.
