Snagged a lost rod and reel

Featured Replies

I was bank fishing on a lake and had my lure stuck on something. I managed to bring it back and it came back with a rod and reel that was lost at the bottom of the lake. The rod was a old zebco, but the reel was a red Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5000. I know about these reels and this must be a lucky find. I'm going to try to clean it up and get it working again. It must not have been there long, because I was able to clean the exterior easily.

Anyone know what exact model Ambassadeur is this? I would like to k ow any information about this reel.

*Seems like I can't post pictures, even 1 photo is too large to attach*

Could be any one of a number of versions. Google is your friend. Compare any schematic carefully with the reel to be sure you’re using the right one. If you want to send it in I’ll go through it for you. Just let me know

@QuirkyCarp2000 After you choose your photo/photos click in the lower right corner of the screen and it will allow you to change the size of your photo/photos from large to medium or small and then you can select add from the upper right corner. IMG_4217.png.1fc787feb8fe011e0ac071771f13208c.png

There are some numbers stamped on the bottom of the reel foot. 81 5. I think that may be the year of manufacture, 1981. The reel have no bearings, only brass bushings for the spool and it have a anti reverse pawl. I think that's all i could describe.

If you took the picture with your phone email it to yourself.  It will reduce the size.
