Legit Grease and Lube?

For my fishing, Cal's wouldn't have the viscosity for drive gears.

Cal's tan is perfect on drag washers for most all fishing, and you don't need or even want much, but you want a continuous film that fully wets drag washers, including inside and outside edges.

Whats the downside of cals grease on everything?

There’s no “downside”. Depending on your particular circumstance there may be choices with added benefit available but like I said, regular care and maintenance far outweighs any product choice unless it’s blatantly incorrect for the application. In the realm of lubricant applications fishing reels are not a harsh or demanding one. Shear forces, temperatures, environments, speeds etc are much larger issues in industrial and automotive uses for example. Grease is nothing more than oil in a carrier used to hold it in place. That’s over simplified but the basic idea. Don’t stay awake nights over this.

For grease I mix CorrosionX with synthetic all purpose grease.  Level wind I use 10w synthetic motor oil. Spool bearings a scant drop of the red Quantum oil.
