Black Boat Interiors

Featured Replies

Why do most new boats I see have black or dark dark grey interiors? It's less of a concern up north here but it still gets hot for a month or two. I can't imagine having black seats and sitting on those after they bake in the sun down south. Are the fabrics something new that dissipates heat well?

I can at least understand the look of a black exterior so long as you're up for the maintenance to not let it be covered in water spots, but the full blacked out boats inside and out are wild to me.

Sit down on black seats in the sun wearing shorts will only happen once!

Darker carpet and seat material doesn’t show dirt and some stains as you mentioned @Vilas15and does retain heat during those triple digit days out west. As for the water spots, a spray bottle with a mixture of water and a little distilled white vinegar does a pretty good job of eliminating that problem.

And too @WRB’s above point, it’s not as bad as you might think and shorts have evolved since the ‘80’s which is a good thing 👍.

I had a boat with blue carpet while a friend had one with tan.  They were both a pain to keep clean.  My current boat has gray carpet and the seats are gray.  They are easy to keep clean.  As for the hot times I sit on a towel.
