Falcon low rider finesse jig rod

Featured Replies

I’m throwing a ton of finesse jigs this year and really liking it. Generally 3/16-5/16 weight. Then the trailer. I also throw a lot of weightless plastics or Texas rigs up to 1/8-3/16 pegged weight.

falcon has the low rider in a 6’ 10” MH that is MF that is rated 3/16-5/8 ounce lures. that they call the finesse jig model. Just curious every one’s thoughts on it for a bank fishing set up?

I have the finesse jig in the expert. It’s rated 1/3-3/4 but it could just as easily be 3/16-5/8. It is my ‘take one rod’ pond hopping for bass. Light enough tip to throw an 1/8oz head plus modest plastic. You can read my full thoughts here.

I think I said it in another thread but the swim jig would be the other one to look at. Ignore the 1/8-3/8 rating. It is a 3/16-5/8 or 3/4 if rated normally.

Thank you!! I gotta go read that. I’m glad to hear that positive review!! When I stumbled across it online I was thinking man this rod is the answer. And I bet it casts well with light Lures. I was considering pairing it with a Shimano slx mg70 so I could really bomb small jigs

yeah, for a 1/4 oz jig plus trailer you’re in a good place. I’ll throw an 1/8 oz sniper jig plus lighter trailer on it some times and that’s pushing the limits but it gets there. An 1/8 swim jig plus a 3.8 keitech is plenty though.

That’s great! Literally what I’m going for. I’m using a Daiwa tatula xt M that’s is 1/4-3/4 but man that’s a stiff rod for a MF for light lures

Back orders till September lol. But I can get it in the Bucoo series

Head weight is not as important as the hook. Pick the rod and line based on hook size and diameter. The finesse jig rod will not have enough backbone for thicker hooks. Step up to the head turner if needed

That's the way I do it.

With all the bait specific rods these days I've found it's easier to just look at the hook.

Hmmm so I’m not sure about some of the jigs I use then. The Missle baits mini swim jig. The dirty jigs finesse swim jig and siebert sniper. I know they all use a 3/0 but I’m honestly not sure on how to rate the wire thickness of the hook and relate it to the rod

I don't want to hijack a thread midstream but what I was referring to is you can't always rely on a bait specific rod to accommodate every scenario.

Example:

A med light drop shot rod designed for 1/16 - 3/8 is ideal for #1 wide gap drop-shot hook " nose hooked  " but some people may t-rig a 3.0 hook to be weedless so now you have a rod with not enough backbone to drive the Hook.

It can't be simple.

No no. Not hi jacking! Share the knowledge. I get exactly what you are saying.  I was just referring to my situation with hooks. Of course it’s never simple lol

One of the cool things about Falcon, ALX, Kistler etc is that you can pick up the phone and talk to someone who will gladly help you select the best rod.

Falcon makes a swim jig rod which I’ve never used. There are prob half a dozen rods in their lineup that will work just fine I’m just concerned the Eakins rod will be too soft for your liking.

Honestly had no idea the customer service as so good! I’ll give them a call then. I really appreciate the help.

Just get the 7’2” swim jig rod and be done with it.

I’m gonna go look at that one now. Think I’d be happy with it for what I’m doing?

That finesse jig model is one of my favorite, if not favorite overall, falcon actions. It’s a sweet 3/8 oz jig/spinnerbait rod.

That and the head turner actions are always in my arsenal.

Sounds perfect!!! I found them in stock in the bucoo series

The finesse jig rod was originally called the Eakins jig rod. It was designed to fish Jim Eakins signature 5/16 ball head jig here in the Ozarks

It was only available in the lowrider series back then and was softer than what you buy today but it's still one of my favorites.

Guys used to throw squarebills on the original model. The current model makes a good spinnerbait rod and some use it for top water with mono.

You can still buy the Eakins jig from Jewell but it is now called the AJ finesse jig.

I didn’t know that! Thank you! I mostly fish good mono 12-14 pound. And honestly that’s what i use 3/16-5/16 swim jigs with a light trailer. Ocdadionallly I’d like to be able to throw a 3/8 ball jig and trailer. Other than that it’s a 5/16-3/8 compact/finesse spinner bait or a mini max bladed jig in 3/8. And if in Texas rig it’s weightless of 1/8-3/16 max tungsten.  I fish ponds and some of them are pressure so I like to fish more compact and subtle presentations.

it was designed to throw 1/8-3/8 oz swim jigs (plus trailer) so yeah I’d say it would do what you want.

Thanks for the help. Didn’t mean to sound dumb. Just some

things are designed but don’t perform the way they are designed lol

This is great advice. If you are not considering how the rod, line, drag, and hook are all acting together for every bait you use, you are putting odds in the bass’s favor

I have the 6'10" Falcon BuCoo Heavy/Fast jig/worm model and it has a really good tip. I think you'd be happy with it for finesse jigs. I actually use it mostly for pitching and casting T-rigs. It's durable too. I've pulled 6-7 pounders out of laydowns and vegetation using 30# braid with it and it's probably 5-6 years old. I guess the corresponding model would be the Head Turner in the Lowrider lineup. BTW, I also have an older MH 7' Lowrider I bought used for $50. It's reaally a heavy crankbait rod, but I used it as an all purpose MH until I could afford more rods. It's hard to go wrong with Falcon.

That’s the head turner equivalent you’re talking about. In the bucoo it’s called the pitching stick last I looked. I have one in the bucoo and the expert version. Great rods but too heavy for what he wants.
