Mercury Vessel View mobile app

Featured Replies

I’ve got a brand new 2024 Mercury 115 ProXS.  Is the Mercury Vessel View mobile app add on something worth doing?  Do you consider it a nice addition, or necessary equipment?  I’m trying to figure out what it will do that my gauges don’t.  One question is, if I don’t get VV, how do I know the hours on my engine for maintenance scheduling?

After 2 months of trying to manually log hours, I buckled and bought it 2 years ago.  So far, it does nothing for me except track hours.  I guess that's not a bad thing.  The only fault it ever registered was one time the kill switch pulled out.

Is it worth it?  At $223, maybe not.  Seems like Merc could sell a basic version with just hours for a LOT less.

I use it to track my fuel. That is the main thing that your gauges likely do not do accurately. This app is VERY accurate. My gas tank might show that I have an almost full tank, but I might have 30 gallons which is actually 3/4 tank in my boat.

You can log maintenance in the app, which I guess you could do anywhere but it reminds you when some maintenance may be needed. If you get it on sale I think it’s definitely worth it, but depends on what you want to get out of it.

I've been using mine close to a year now on a 115 and I'm glad that I bought it. Wish I had went with it on my last boat.

I have a 40 hp four stroke tiller, so no console, no gauges. So VV provides me with a tachometer, water temp, and an hour meter (it has the hours stored since new). It has other features, but those are the major things I pay attention to. I'm not sure how well the on-board diagnostics actually work, but they're there in case the need to use them should arise.

Mercury has replaced the original. $225 roughly, vessel view mobile with a new version that costs $700 plus.  With the new version, you can view your info on your mfd.  The old one was viewed on your cell phone.

I'm not upgrading, the old version gives me everything I need.

You sure about that?  Vessel View Mobile has been replaced by Smartcraft Connect at about the same price.  Amazon.com : MERCURY Marine SmartCraft Connect Mobile - Connected Boat Engine System for iOS and Android Devices : Sports & Outdoors.

Vessel View (not the mobile version) provides a lot more data and integrates with NEMA2000 devices and was always much more expensive.

Depends on the type of gauges you have.  With Smartcraft gauges probably not, because they are precise.  With other types, yes.  I have mine for RPM.  A regular tach is not very precise ... most of the time.

You're right, the SmartCraft Connect Mobile replaces the original Vessel View Mobile.

The SmartCraft Connect is a new item and it integrates with Garmin, Simrad, and Raymarine displays utilizing NEMA 2000.

1)  If you're investigating which prop to run, Vessel View is very helpful.

2)  You can typically find it cheaper on eBay or Facebook Marketplace.
