Newbie.......with questions!

Featured Replies

I have been lurking here for the past couple of days.................excellent forum!!  I haven't fished much the past three or four years (work, baby, hunting, etc.).................I have recently got all retooled, and I am ready to hit the water.

My question is on braided line.......my only experience was a bad one (spider wire probably ten years ago)............who uses what and when?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Trey

There was a discussion on this not too long ago.  Sufix and Power Pro seem to be the favs around here.  Some people love it and some hate it.  Do a search for those two lines.  But me personally, I quite using braid after one season.  I had a bad experience with it as well.  I only use the mono now, P-line 20lb.  Welcome to the forum!

Welcome aboard!

I had to move this to another section for you. I am sure you will get many replies.

BTW, I don't fish braid either.

Sorry, I have to join the "don't use braid" crowd also. That's not much help when you need an answer :-/. I've used one brand of mono for so long that I pretty much know how it's gonna act in a given situation

Also wanted to say WELCOME to the forum!!

Thanks for the replies.............I figured out that I had it in the wrong section, but it was already too late (grin)!!

Let me ask it this way...............does anyone have anything good to say about the new clear Fire Line?

Trey

Welcome!

I used Cables Rip Cord Si Plus Braid and I love it. I never had an issue with it and I have been using it since the original Ripcord came out many years ago. With that being said, I wouldn't use braid for all applications. If you are using just one rod, then I probably would suggest fluorocarbon, because that line seems to be able to handle many situations. If you have several rods, then braid would be perfect for jigs, surface frogs in slop, carolina rigs, and I use if for soft plastics with a leader. This is just my humble opinion and you will have to find out what you are comfortable with.

PS. I think Fireline of any kind sucks

Green PowerPro 40 or 50.  I like 40.  You will need a really sharp knife or razor to cut it clean.  Keep it wound tight on the spool, and keep the tight line away from rocks.  Cut any fraying line off.  Thats pretty much it.

I use Power pro on just about every reel I have. I recieved a package in the mail today. 1500 yard spool of Power Pro braid. I don't see how you can beat it. JMHO

Ronnie

i currently use power pro on my spinnerbait rig and my flipping/pitching rig.  I like the strength of the braid for flippin heavy matts of grass and lily pads.  however, i will be switching my spinnerbait rig to either yozuri hybrid, which is on all other rigs, or to a pure fluorocarbon line.

I fish braid for everything.

My favorite is Suffix braid so far with Power Pro being a close second. I am currently trying out Tuff Line XP and so far so good with it.

Thanks for the replies....................My plans are to spool some up on my C-rig set-up and see how that goes......if all goes well I will try it on other set-up's as well.

I will have to try some of the Power pro.

Thanks again for the help,

Trey
