Does that forum still work for you?

I can’t seem to get in or get anyone to respond in years now.

Same, I gave up a few years ago.

@ReelDr - you have to be registered and logged-in - go through the front end and send an e-mail to Cal.

They had to restrict access this way (all php.board) because AI web crawlers were using 1000x more bandwidth than members.

@dk2429 - reduced loaded spool mass reduces inertia for quicker start, needs less brake force, and overall improves cast distance and reliability.

Thanks for the info.

I lost access to the email I used to create the account years ago and emailed Cal and Zander to try and get it updated multiple times with no response.

I didn’t even think about line capacity. I like 16# Sniper for my Texas rigs right now.

Looks like the Zillion is rated between 43-87yds yards of 16# test??? Why do all of the JDM reels have such small line capacity? I was going to get a JDM Stradic recently but opted out because of how little line it held. I guess 87yds is enough, that just seems like very little line. I believe my Elite holds 125yds

Any idea why it’s rated for 43-87yds of 16#? Under what circumstance would it only hold 43, but hold 87 in another situation? I don’t get that

16# sniper should be just fine.  Sniper is a thinner diameter japanese style mono (I use 16# supernatural on my head turner).  You should be at the 87 yards end of the rating.  If that was big game or elite you're closer to the 43 yards end.  I just went to 18# shooter on my HCJ on the bantam to try it.

The dual capacity rating might be for when only filling the spool halfway.  That's a thing with the SV spools and some even have a line on the side of the spool to indicate where to stop if you want to do this.  It's really only used in the Japanese fishing scene to get a smaller diameter spool to cast lighter weights.  It let's you have easy spool startup inertia of a small 28 or 30 mm spool.  Daiwa later made reels with spools in those diameters but the halfway line (don't know what it is actually called) is still found on some reels like the Zillion.

Also based on that line on the spools in the pictures of the Alphas SV and Zillion I'd say it not a "halfway line" and more of a specific stopping point when filling the spool to get a 30mm spool.  The Alphas is a 33mm spool and that line looks to be about 3mm below the spool rim on the Alphas a just a bit further down and deeper into the spool on the 34mm Zillion.

I have 3 Zillion SV’s on crankbait setups. I also have an Elite. I have no problems with distance using the Zillions. The Elite is pretty smooth but the Zillions are in a different league.

I love my Zillions. I was warned they tend to multiply.  Now I have two.  I’ll be in Japan later this year, and I’ll probably grab another one.  Plus some DC reel.  Maybe the SLX, maybe the Met.  Dunno.
