Pairing Simano Curado 150 mgl

Featured Replies

Need a good advise to pair a shimano curado 150 mgl to a decent rod..fishing plastics,frogs,topwater....

What is your budget... Way too many options.. Any 7'2 MH rod in any brand would work..

What gear ratios? I’d suggest a MH / F for 7.x:1 and a MH / MF or M 6.x:1.

What baits are you throwing?

The options are almost endless.  I suggest taking a trip if there's a BassPro, Cabelas, or independent tackle store near you and handle rods that interest you.  A fishing rod is like a pair of shoes, you'll know if it's the right one when 'you know'.

There's no standard for a FAST or MOD-FAST action between manufacturers.  I own Abu, Kistler, Diawa, Douglass, St. Croix ... etc.  My MH/F Douglass rods feel very different than my MH/F Kistlers.  Abu Garcia rods run a little 'heavier' than their action.  I have a couple older 7' M/F Veritas rods I can throw 1/4 - 3/8 oz jigs on but wouldn't with my M/F Kistlers.

Lastly, you want a more moderate action rod for treble hook baits.

Good luck picking out rods for your Shimanos.

Dobyns Sierra 704 is a great all around stick at a good price.

What do you intend to do with it? Techniques are action specific and those actions tend to be kinda personal.

General Purpose? A Loomis GCX 783MBR is hard to beat, but there are many others. I have many brands and many actions....its more about the action/feel of the rod for the intended use than the brand. A good rod can range from $99 to $600.....give us a purpose and target price.

I've used that rod as my dedicated spinner bait/chatter bait rod for years.  Love it and recently swapped out a Curado 200k for a 150 mgl which feels like a much better fit.  I imagine going down the GLoomis route would be the next logical step, or the Zodias/Expride lines. My Zodias rods are sleepers, fantastic weight and sensitivity.
