Vanquish model for NRX+ 852S

Featured Replies

Ordered the 852S yesterday basically for Neko, Wacky, and Shaky fishing.

After doing a bunch of reading, I’m really interested in the Shimano Vanquish.

The only problem is that I can’t get my hands on it to figure out which model balances the best with this rod.

Anyone have this rod? Maybe even paired with a Vanquish?

If you don’t have this reel, what reel do you have and how does it balance?

Thanks!

I have the vanquish c3000mhg on a nrx+ 852s and it seems a perfect match.  The twin power c3000mhg seems to just as good as the vanquish

2500/3000 will be fine I have 3000 size Shimano's on both mine.

Not an exact match, but might be worth something. I have the 872s with a 2500 twin power. Really like the balance. Cabo31 mentioned a twin power. The weight difference is pretty significant between the twin power and vanquish. I think I would go 3000 Vanquish if I was you.

Haven’t fished with the twin power much, but have a 2000 vanquish and it’s a sweet reel!

Have the 852 with the newer twin power FE 3000 and it feels perfect in my hands. More of a do-all rod for me finesse-wise.

Picked up a 2023 Vanquish 3000 and paired it with an NRX+ 842S SJR and took it out on it’s first trip today. I think I may like the sound of drag peeling on it better than my Exist… the Exist is like a magnificent painting you admire but the vanquish is like music to my ears lol.

All 3 reels are phenomenal and couldn’t recommend them more. I go with the 3000 on all of my spinning reels. T handle takes a little bit getting used to if you’re used to using 2500 sized reels but you’re comparing feathers with leaves at a certain point.

I have this reel and it is outstanding.  Honest advice to OP, and it might sound silly; go try some reels out by weight and choose your vanquish based on your findings. I chose this particular model after narrowing down the best feeling weight on the rod I was going to put the reel on and it feels perfect. I imagine all the Vanquish models are outstanding 👌

I have the 2000C in the current version and the 3000 MHG in the previous. I think between the 2500 and the 3000, it comes down to personal preference. I have the 3000 on a NRX+ 803S and the 2000C on the 821S. I like both and both balance well.

I also have the 2500C Twin Power. I really like this reel as well. This has been my favorite spinning reel as of late.

So if its was me, I think I would go with the 2500 size but you really can't go wrong with either the 3000 or the 2500.

How do you feel about wacky rigs with the 803S in docks? What else would you use it for? I know we spoke about this in another post but your comment reminded me about it. I have an 852, 842, and P5 Addermine trying to figure out if it’s worth it to keep the 803S in my lineup or not.

Well just ordered the C3000MHG.

My main concern is balance and by the sound of things this reel balances well.

Now I just need to figure out some good Neko baits.

Can't wait!

That's kind of what I use it for.

I would keep it.  It has a bit more power than the 852S and for me, I like for windy days when I want to cast a heavier bait. On the other hand,  there is the Windbuster.  Not as sensitive as the NRX+ rods but its definitely more versatile.

I don't have 852s but I have a 843s and 872s. I use c2500sxg for 843s and c3000xg for 872s. I like the c3000xg better with 2500 frame and 3000 spool.

@HawkeyeSmallie ^^ this ^^

I have Twin Power C3000MHG and it's perfect for big fish on finesse tackle both for spool small-line capacity and drag and drive power.  Also finesse feel.  (I have Vanquish in C2000S size).

Vanquish and Twin Power are the same reel design, swap spools, swap all parts, etc.

The only difference is weight.  Twin Power is formed aluminum body and rotor, which makes it heavier.

Vanquish is magnesium body and special-lightened CI4+ rotor, making it the lowest-inertia spinning reel ever made.  Start-wind and stopping, the offset mass of the rotor and bail don't push on your hand.

The difference is subtle, and you only notice it with another Shimano worm-drive side-by-side.
