Let’s talk buzz baits - is the MS Cavitron still considered king, and if not what is? What is generally considered to be the ideal weight?

I've thrown a bunch and I only throw 2 varieties now, the Crock o Gator X Bite with a Horny Toad or the Buckeye G Buzz with a Horny Toad. A skirt, to me, casts awfully and doesn't let me put the bait where I want it. I will run from 1/4-1/2oz depending on situation. The 3/8 is a good all around, but I prefer the 1/2oz in murky water, heavy current or low light. Don't put the bait away because the sun is out, sling it all day.

Black 1/4 Oz Cavitron works great first thing in the morning, otherwise I use a Stanley buzz frog.

The Cavitron is still one of my favorites but I fish the Croc-O-Gator more often anymore. The 1/4oz gold blade/black skirt is just a killer little bait.

How on earth can you cast a 1/4 buzzbait

I use a 7’ MH Kistler Kyrios and an Okuma Hakai with 17lb mono. It cast super well with that combo. The blade is pretty small so it doesn’t catch wind and it’s built really compact. I was threading it back through flooded trees and grass Sunday and getting bit.

A 1/4 of buzzbait is just the head portion.  the wire, hook, blade and skirt will push it over 3/8 pretty quickly and a chunky trailer will get you almost to 1/2 oz.

That's my favorite place to throw buzzbaits.  Flooded teresterial brush that doesn't have the slimy, tangly stalks like milfoil or chaga.  And the water is usually a little dirty so the fish are right tight shallow.  Too many fish eat it as soon as it hits the water then.

I cast 1/8 oz buzzbaits all the time on my heavy braid buzzbait set up.  I use 50 lb braid and a 7'6 MH/MF and with a trailer it casts like a bullet.

I like the 1/4oz buzzbaits and assemble them in all sorts of configurations.
