Boat foam

Featured Replies

Is there some formula to how much a boat should have, or is it more like just fill up any extra space with it?

I'm going to reconfig my boat a bit and may end up removing some.

What size and kind of boat?

Aluminum boats add floatation foam under the seats in case the boat is swamped and filled with water to prevent sinking.

If you fish navigable water with Coast Guard regulations modifying the flotation foam may be a safety violation.

the tiny boat nation guys have a lot of experience and videos in that realm.  I know they have gone from sheet foam to pour foam, to pool noodles, and back to sheet foam for different usages, boats, and locations within boats.  They are typically stripping out a hull and rebuilding it from scratch or nearly scratch.

If you are using pour foam, I think the manufacturer has the buoyancy/weight calculations listed on the can.

It's a mid 90s 15' sea nymph bass boat. I'm thinking of adding some storage and maybe even partially or fully deleting the rear deck. I figured I would just eyeball what I removed and try to put that much back in or more. I was basically going to fill every nook and cranny with foam that wasn't being used. I just didn't know if it needed to be more complicated than that.
