Until the new law passed - bass season was closed from the end of February until the middle of May. Now C&R is legal during that period.

Yes, year around catch n release on smallmouth and largemouth bass.

Depends on which record your referring to. Official weight state records are not permitted during the C & R portion because you have to immediately release the fish. Certifying it on a calibrated scale with witnesses is impossible.

 

There is a length state record version that might fall though. You’ll still need a witness, and you’ll need to prove the length of the fish, and then fill out a form for submission.

 

I personally think there’s a state record smallmouth in Mille Lacs right now. Someone just has to catch it, prove it, and submit it properly. My hope is that a bass angler does it, not a walleye angler using live bait. We’d never hear the end of that.
