I got unlucky

I was fishing the susky yesterday went to move to a new spot. As I got up on plane I felt the motor over rev. Nothing new with a jet if you end up sucking something. I went to go to a different spot again and I was struggling to get up on plane. I knew there was an issue.

i ended up completely losing a blade on my impeller. Which robbed me significantly  of power. I do not believe I sucked anything it was a defect in the casting and it shattered.

@casts_by_fly I didn’t think there would be a warranty on it. I figured they would call it wear and tear item. Because all the rest of the blades were in good shape it’s being warrantied.

Is that aluminum or stainless?  My aluminum impeller gets chewed to pieces in about 2 trips without even noticably hitting anything, thinking about changing it up

@bartnc37 aluminum. I’ve always run Aluminum and haven’t had issues unless I heard myself suck something out. Sounds like a slot machine hitting the Jack pot. 😂 I

Who do you get your parts from?

@bartnc37I get it from lakeside marine I am not sure what company made the impeller. There js only a couple companies that do. The first one was the stock Yamaha one which is not made by Yamaha.

is your jet grate to low below your hull? Do you use reverse a lot?  I try to only use reverse in 4ft of water or more. Reverse shoots debris right up into your intake.

Grate height is fine, I have the Yamaha impeller, but I do a fair amount of reversing off of sandbars and the launches are just gravel down into the river, so I’m sure I get it there.  Plus the river is all sand so I’m always sucking up the loose sand in the water.

I was gonna go stainless impeller with an aluminum sleeve so I have a little give in the system, but still hold up to the sandblasting.

@bartnc37 I am all rock and gravel. I spend most my time on plane if the motor is running. Reversing off the sand bars is probably doing it.
