Anyone shaking a minnow on casting gear?

Featured Replies

I spent most of my evening today mid strolling. I decided to tie a jig and minnow on a casting rod and I’m glad I did. I used my Expride 6’10 M and it worked well for this technique and I preferred it over a spinning rod surprisingly. I might have liked it better just because that rod parred with a 70 size reel is so light and fun to fish, and my spinning gear is all much more budget friendly than that setup but I figured I’d ask if anyone else prefers strolling with a casting rod over spinning gear.

I do it with casting gear quite a bit. I throw a drop shot on casting gear also.

I only use baitcasting. I too started out with an Expride but actually found the handle too long to impart the action, especially tip-down. Was very annoying/fatiguing.

Have since switched to a Medium-Light Fast action Cashion Icon BF rod. The handle length is perfect. Rod comes in 6-8, 6-10 or 7-2. Again, I prefer the tip-down approach since I’m looking down at my screen and go with the 6-8 mostly but I also have a 6-10 if I want two different lures on and ready to go.

Baitcasting only for me as well.  I have a 7'3 ML bfs - salt rod with a solid tip that is my favorite, but have 2 M/F rods that do well for 6-7" jighead minnows and 2 other L/F rods that shake pretty good too.
