Thanks KU!! Exactly the type of answer I was NOT looking for!!  :)

I'm just waiting for the "Get the Daiwa, it looks cooler" response.   ::)

Honestly I like shimano and Diawa both I haven't used a super tuned but I have had a Citica.  I think I read somwhere here before that you had a 50 mg,    My experiance with the citica wasn't what I hoped it would be. The shimano Curado 200dhsv was my first shimano reel and I like it alot and I thought I would like the Citica as well but as it turned out I wasn't very happy with it after being so used to my Curado.  I would almost think that you might be in the same situation as you are probally used to your Mg and while the Citica is a good reel for the money   I think once you go High end it's hard to come back down, atleast that has been my experiance.  Maybe you might like it but I didn't.

I guess I would give the edge to the Daiwa in the looks department.

OK.... Here's a little more thought ...... If you have a 50Mg, I found it VERY awkward to go from a 50Mg to a 200 size reel. Not so much the weight, but the physical size. I had been fishing with 200 size Curados for 4 or 5 years and never had a problem. Then this winter I added a Scorpion 1000 Mg and the 200 size Curados felt horrible. I am now replacing them with all 100's. This is just my experience. So I don't know if your looking for reel capacity or what .... but I would take that into consideration. I think Citica just came out with a deep spool version of the 100 Citicas.

CC, hopefully Craw will chime in here. He uses the Daiwa ST's and could give you a good review and honest opinion on them.

I'm looking for more line capacity. It will be used for both largemouth and striped bass. The Mg is sweet but I was very uncomfortable with the line capacity when fishing for stripers. It's powerful enough to handle 'em but I don't think it holds enough line for the bigger boys.

For Largemouth, I completely agree with you. The 50-100 size is just right.

I purchased the citica 200d around christmas. It is a great reel, and I plan on getting another here soon. It casts great, is very smooth. You cant say enough about it.

Throw my vote in on the 200D.  I have 2 Curado 200DHSV's and i just added 2 200D's to my collection as well.  I have not done alot of fishing with them but i do like the way they feel in my hand.  I feel its a great reel for the price!

I have a Curado 100D and love the reel...also have a Daiwa Inshore (SW version of the advantage) and really like it too.  Daiwa and Shimano make great products.  If you are used to fishing a Chronach 50mg and like it's feel, consider going with the Citica 100DSV for the extra line capacity.  Maybe it won't have as much as a 200, but close enough that you probably won't get spooled.

Shimano seems to be the reel of choice for most anglers and I understand that the return rate for problems with Shimano is very low compared to other reel manufacturers.

I'm sure the Daiwa Advantage ST or the Citica will serve you well....but the Citica offers a small profile reel (just like the Chronarch 50mg) with a larger line capacity.  I like the smaller reels...so my vote is for the Citica.

Cheers

I have not fished the citica, but I did have a Daiwa ST and loved it. It has a higher count of bearings and it cast well. I have a curado and having the opportunity to use the centrifugal brake system, I hands down prefer the daiwa magnetic brakes.

I have both, I love both.  Two of the Citica, one of the Daiwa.  If I could get another deal on a Daiwa, I would have another of those.

They are both fine reels and you can't go wrong with either one.

I fish both of those reels, alot. Both are good reels.

That said, I would go for the Advantage Super Tuned.

1. I like the external brake adjustment.

2. TD-A palms like a dream, the Citica 200D is kind of bulky.

3. TD-A just flat out casts better.

In fact, I prefer my TD-A over my Fuego.

Thanks for the input everyone. I guess it's a toss up. I have a $150 gift certificate which has been sitting on my desk since Christmas. There are so many goodies I want but I NEED another casting reel.

I'm also considering the Inshore Coastal Special to double as a surf and freshwater reel. I might just drop another $50 for the Curado.

Man...decisions, decisions. :-/

I have never fished the new Citica but my Girlfriend has a 153 Advantage and loves it.  She has it on a 7ft H All Star T-Series and uses it to plug for stipers and throw 4-5" swimbaits for Sand Bass, Halibut, Cuda, etc...

id get the diawa .... i used to fish shimano but they seem big and bulky .... i just baught a new cu 201 but quickly returned it for another zillion .... just my opinion ,,, but id say diawa .... why spend the extra money on a heavy bulky reel ????  :o

Advantage super tuned. This is one of the best bang for the buck reels going right now. Compare the specs with some of the higher grade Diawa reels,  same drag system. A step above the Citica.

I like my advantage ST, no problems, bought it right after they first came out. I can't compare it to a citica, but I do own a curado 100d, I think the Advantage ST is just as good.., just more line capacity, diferent style reel.

I have the advantage ST, and i really like the reel. I've had mine for several years and have had no problems.  I like the profile of the reel because it sits nice on a rod and is comfortable to palm.  I'd say go to the store and compare the feel of the two and decide from there.
