Lews LFS speedspool

Featured Replies

I bought a couple of these a few months ago for $59 on sale at fleet farm. So I snagged the 2  they had. I have been fishing my Shimano slx xt and mgl70 this year. I’ve taken the lews out a few times recently. It is super smooth. I found it a tad. Finicky to dial on the brakes and spool tension to get a good cast. It casts pretty decent as well with a 5/16 jig and trailer. I’ve only tried mono on it. Not braid yet. How do you all like these reels? Find any limitations?

I think this reel is one of if not the best values you can get. I think the MSRP is $100? Even at that price it’s a good deal. But always on sale somewhere it seems. I have a few of these in my arsenal and they’re joys to fish with. They’ll cast a mile when dialed in. Good reels for a good price. When I need a reel and a Daiwa isn’t in the budget, the LFS SS is the reel I look to first.

I agree for the price point they seem really stout for sure!

I have 3 , all on my cranking rods. I like the 5.6 gear ratio they offer for crank bait fishing. I find they cast great for me, even with lighter baits. Had them for a couple years at least now with no complaints. I give them a couple drops of reel butter a couple times a year.

These are the 7.5 speed. Which I’m fine with because I mostly bottom fish anyway. Lots of jigs and Texas rigs. I’d like to find a lower speed to have though. I should pop these apart and oil them though

they are great reels, i've had no issue with them no matter the type of line or bait i use. i picked up a couple lately on those clearance deals for $60. you cant beat them for the money, bought the next gen model and like it so far also.

I wondered  about the new gen model.

I’ve got a few as well and they are bulletproof for a $100 reel. Even more so when you get them on sale (which seems like you can always find them on sale). The LFS and the original SLX $100 reel always seem to find a way into my arsenal.  I’ve got a few of each. I like them both equally.

For $100 it was a great reel. New MSRP at $129 is tough. JDM tatula 100 can still be had for ~$150, $50 delta with the lfs makes it a good deal, $20 makes stepping up to a tatula a lot more appealing.

Edit new MSRP is $139 even worse, no way I'd buy one over a tat 100 currently.

I have two of the previous generation Lews LFS Speed Spool reels in different gear ratios. I really like them, in fact they replaced a couple of reels that cost twice as much. They cast great, feel great in my hands, pretty smooth retrieve, super easy to adjust, cost effective, and they just work.

I recently picked up a BPS carbonlite reel (the black one) that's based on the newer generation LFS with a few upgrades and it's pretty awesome as well.
