Lews Laser HS casting rod?

Anyone comment on this rod? https://www.walmart.com/ip/Lew-s-Laser-HS-Casting-Fishing-Rod-7-Foot-1-Piece-Rod-Medium-Heavy-Action-Green-Gray/214222265

I was at walmart and checked it out. It is light and nicely balanced. It's on the lighter side of other M/H rods I've inspected, which would make it a great all around rod. It sure feels great in hand.

The tip seemed softer than other comparable rods as well. Which, for me, is desirable.

As long as you're sticking to mono/plastic mainline, what do you have to lose for 36 clams and some change? Braid will cut the SS tip-top insert eventually. Whoop on it the first trip out to eliminate infant mortality.

I didn't notice it said stainless steel inserts. I don't normally run braid. Though I have some 20 pound on a rod currently I was frogging with today.

Just seeing this. I personally have all the models of this rod as they are very good for the price. I have used braid on all of them without any issues. they are great rods for the price. I think they are plenty sensitive. If your used to expensive rods they may feel cheap, but that's the difference between 30 and 200 dollars.  I use these for a small boat my buddy has so if something happens, i don't lose much.

The tip is a little soft, especially on the medium casting. But for my use, it works wonders. I also suggest grabbing the UL or the ML spinning rods. I accidently caught several 4lb bass on the UL with 6lb Braid while crappie fishing. They are a blast to use for the money. Had mine for 2 seasons now and no issues. I also like the hook holder location and design. Personal preference. Makes using a drop shot easy to just hook my weight.

Welcome to the forum.  Thanks for sharing your experience with the rods.

Where are you from in PA?  Was born and raised in Bradford County near the NY/PA state lines.  Moved to ABE area when 37 due to company closing after 102 years in business.  Fishing was tons better before the move.  Did a lot of fishing in the Twin Tiers and a little further north.

That looks like the 'kickin their bass' rod combo without the reel. I've personally moved away from Lew's rods and reels but that's only because I've become a bit spoiled over time and honestly that's probably not a bad rod from the looks of it and the price is more than reasonable. Lew's doesn't have the warranty others have but they do have some above average products and especially in the $50-$150 price range. If I wanted a basic casting rod and my budget was < $100 that would be something I'd look at.

Oh cool. I'm about 30-45 minutes south of Allentown along the Delaware River. Had my first trip up to beltzville this year. Decent lake up there. I fish mostly local to my area though.

I tried Beltsville a few times, but fishing from shore sucked.  I was told that guys able to fish at night from boats often did quite well.  Had a neighbor when I first moved to the area that did that.  He caught fish.

There is a Delaware River forum.  Guys on there able to fish from boats have reported 100 Smallmouth days.

I've seen a few videos from beltzville from shore and seems you just gotta hit the season and time right. But nockamixon will be the closest to me since we are moving. But shore fishing can be hard there too.

I'll have to check out the river forum.

Thanks.

They are a really good rod for the price. Definitely a little soggy in the tip, but that balances out nicely with braided line (I’ve got a Berkley Cherrywood that has had braid on it for the last 20 years and the guides are fine), or fluorocarbon.

Thanks for sharing all. I wouldn't run braid exlusively, but but it will definitly be an option for this rod if I pick it up.

So, you'll probably be fine. I did need to change out a tip-top on a Lew's Carbonfire H after braid cut a groove in it. However, that was following several seasons of throwing heavy bottom baits and dragging them through junk which kicks up silts. Those silts/fines will coat the braid making it abrasive creating a bit of a saw. If you're just fishing, you'll be fine. That Carbonfire now has a SIC tip-top, so it's bulletproof going forward.

I contacted Lews and asked if this rod would handle braid and they said "Yes it will handle braid!"
