Expride Jig Rod

Featured Replies

Hey guys new to the forum. Just looking for some opinions on a new jig rod. Looking at Shimano Exprides particularly 7'2" Heavy fast and 7'4" Heavy Mod Fast. Any information is appreciated. Thanks in advance

I've fished half oz footballs on the 72H and it handles them fine, plenty sensitive, I just prefer a little more length.

No experience with the 74H but I suspect it's an excellent rod.

Not exactly, but I have the 7'6MH and the 7'7H in the older models.  When jig fishing in early spring before the weed growth really gets going, I prefer the mod fast action of the 7'7H.  But by the end of May when it's pretty much topped out, I find the tip loads too much for me trying to negotiate the jigs through the cover giving me a feeling that I'm not fully in control of getting it through but not moved too far.  So if I fished water that was only moderate in weed growth, I'd always prefer the mod/fast action.  I fish braid to floro and might think differently if I used straight mono.

the 74 heavy mod would be great for big football jigs on rock. help keep them  from throwing the heavy jig when the jump. for grass the 72 heavy would be my choice you just have to decide what your main jig application is.

I prefer shorter rods typically 7 foot for jig fishing with short butt sections to aid in pitching with my style.  This makes the rod in front of the reel seat equivalent to a 7'2" -7'4" length rod.  I do not fish heavy mats, mostly just lay downs and lilly pads.  I prefer a medium heavy fast as my go to.
