Rod length =?

Longer rods act like a long lever working against me. I am finding the longer baitcast rods getting harder to cast. And fighting fish on longer rods takes more muscle as well.

That's funny I find it the exact opposite but now that I think about it all of my longer rods are spinning and my baitcasters tend to be my shorter rods. I've always thought of the leverage working for me not against me in the fight but in terms of casting a longer baitcaster I can see what you mean.

LOL looking at your location and PB maybe on a 9lb largemouth I'd feel differently!

We are talking about fresh water bass where leverage isn’t a factor fighting or controlling them. If the fish weighs more then you do leverage could come into play, but even then the reel has a drag to even out the advance to the angler.
Longer rod compared to a foot shorter rod of equal strength will have more bending length to apply force effectively.

Most of my rods are 6'-6" to 7'.

Favorite rod is an old Cabela's 6' casting rod, medium weight with spiral guide system. Great balance, just an overall wonderful rod to fish.

My boat can accommodate up to 7'-4" rods.

At the most basic level longer = longer casts, shorter = better accuracy. Theres an argument to be made that longer rods are more sensitive (defined as light bite detection). The longer rods will move more line on a hookset. Keep in mind that your caveat of all else being equal rarely is the fact. At its root the rod is a lever, nothing more or less.

Oof.   I hesitate to debate this.  But i feel all else being equal, a shorter rod is more sensitive because the information has a shorter path to our hands(????).   Maybe I’m wrong.    I don’t have rods shorter than 7.

Reason being is rods don’t send vibration or waves, you feel the tip moving and the longer lever moves more when the tip moves. This is probably over simplified to a degree. That’s where ymmv comes in.

I don’t know about sensitivity so much, but I have always thought that I had better “feel” with a short rod.

When the 5’6” Lightning Rod with the 4500C Ambassadeur comes out, that’s when I’m done fooling around!! (Or at least that’s when I think I’m making the fish bite simply out of respect for my 80’s swagger).
