Shimano Zodias 7' m/f spinning rod

Featured Replies

anyone own subject rod? thinking about buying one. additionally, Shimano has a Zodias 7'2" medium light plus /fast action. can someone splain the "plus" to a hayseed country boy? I'll be thanking you.

Slightly heavier than their medium light, but not as heavy as there medium rod. Of course. that designation only applies to THEIR series of rods and has nothing to do with any other brand.

The 7m is my do all spinner, I love it. Paired with a vanford f c3k it does anything from weightless plastics to swimbaits for striper.

I’ve seen and touched both. With a Vanford on them seems to be an excellent set up. I liked the ML. I have the potential for big fish (Penna.) and have caught some nice smallies but the ML would handle them here.
Enjoy it when you get it.

That’s what Trey Kistler began tagging his rods with years ago.

Guess Shimano saw it as Marketing language. It sounds good though..

Medium Light Plus..

Makes me wanna buy one just sitting here 😂🤣😂

Yes.  No.  Maybe.  Could be.

I checked lure ratings for that rod and regular ML and Medium power rods in the Zodias line of spinning rods.  Max weight for the ML+ is the same as for a Medium, but with a 1/16 oz. lower weight.  Regular ML has same lower weight, but 1/16 oz. less on the high end.

Only use will tell you how accurate the rating is.

I have the Light MHF Helium 3 casting rod.  Most MHF casting rods run 1/4-3/4 oz. or 1/4-1 oz.  The Kistler is rated 3/16-7/8 oz.  I've yet to test its limits.  Normally I try to stay in a rod's mid-range.

My dad has the 7’ medium. I have the 6’9” ml zodias as well as the poison adrena 7’2”. The 7’ medium has a little more power compared to the 7’2” but it’s pretty close. The 7’2” has just a tiny bit lighter tip. But I’ve landed bass to just under 5# on it with no issues.
