How to start painting and making lures?

Featured Replies

I'm looking for some help on how to start painting lures and molding soft plastics. I have a 3D printer and have been making models of hard baits like crankbaits and jerkbaits, but I need some guidance on how to start painting them and how to get that nice glossy, professional look. I'd also love to learn how to start molding soft plastics and where to begin with that process.

With winter coming up, I get out fishing less and less, so I really want to stay busy and keep with this amazing hobby during the colder months. Any tips, advice, or resources you can share would be super helpful.

You will need an airbrush for the colors and patterns.

If you want to dabble in it before a full investment, you can do something called Sharpie airbrushing, whereby you use a sharpie marker and a can of comressed air to make a poor mans airbrush. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gG-rMPNiXSA
