Anyone tried the Fish Monkey neoprene “The Blocker” gloves? Wondering if these are the best option for cold weather fishing with a baitcaster or if there is better?

Featured Replies

I know the search for a truly good pair of cold weather fishing gloves is still ongoing, with Aftco Breakwaters currently being the “least crappy option.” Unfortunately, these have a major deal breaking flaw - the fabric is a magnet for trebles, which is sort of a brainless design when you consider jerkbaits are one of the preeminent cold weather baits. Then add in katsuage outbarbs and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. Which leads me to ask - why do so many fishing gloves have fabric on the outside?

Fish Monkey comes up quite a bit and these Blockers appear to be the most low profile option offering slots for knot tying on the thumb and forefinger. With most Jerkbait setups being casting, wondering if having your thumb poking through a slot the entire time would be cumbersome and if straight up fingerless neoprene would be superior? What is your experience?

Are you wanted a full finger style of gloves? I’m a big fan of the Bassmooch “reel-em”, fleece gloves if you like a mixed style.

I don’t care if full finger or fingerless I just want the warmest glove that still offers dexterity and ability to tie knots/use a baitcaster.

I got the thicker version.  the "fish gripper"??  dunno, still in the package.

I cant imagine tying knots with gloves.  I dont think I could with Nitril gloves.

The Bassmooch gloves are full finger fleece gloves over the pinky and ring finger and half finger for the other 3. It’s the best combination of warmth and maximum dexterity IMO.

I opened this link and immediately felt like those gloves were making some kind of new, obscene gesture at me.  I'm deciding whether or not to be offended.  Please stand by.

Are they capable of actually keeping you warm in the winter though?

How would you compare those to the fish monkey gloves?

I haven’t used the FM gloves you’re talking about but I’ve used the half finger Wooly gloves and these are definitely warmer.

I usually use a cheap pair of jersey gloves.  I can feel bites and cast with them.  I carry several pairs and change them when they get wet.  I also carry hand warmers in my pockets and wear a heated vest in under 50 weather.
