Trying to identify old rod

Featured Replies

This old rod has been around the family for as long as I can remember. I would love to know more about it. Any help identifying it would be appreciated.

Wow, must be an oldie. You don’t see many rods that are hand written like that unless it was a custom built

I wondered about it being custom, but the model #1271 leads me to think is is not a one-off.

It says “Lew’s” right on it so I’m going with factory. I imagine the model number is under the reel foot holder if you unscrew it a bit.

Graphite was a new buzzword worth writing on the rod c. early '80s. My first graphite rod was 1983.

Lew's Fuji grip also matches the age.

It kind of looks like the old original Lews Speed stick.

Thats what I keep thinking. That model number doesn't come up as a rod, but it does come up a a set of guides from lews around that time period.
