Inconsistencies in price

Featured Replies

I went to the local taqckle shop today to purchase some Baby Brush hogs. Yes I know I can get a better deal from Brent, but at the moment my Paypal account is empty.

Anyway... I go to where the brush hog section and notice different prices on all the baits. Ranging from $3.29 a bag to $3.79 a bag. Prices were different based on color, and then.. I found the peg that had some black with red fleck baby brush hogs.

The one on top was priced $3.79,the one behind it was $3.49,behind that $3.29,Then the one behind it was $3.59. Same bait, same color, same peg,all different prices. Threw me for a loop,so I looked around and found as many $3.29 bags as possible. I know its only a few cents difference but really makes no sense. Why charge different prices for different colors on the same bait and so on and so forth. Any thoughts?

The job market is pretty tight around the country. The main requirement for entry level retail work is only the ability to fog a mirror and show up. You might be surprised just how hard is is to find people who will actuallly "show up". $3.29, $3.59. $3.79...heck, they all start with a 3...Three-something.

I'd say the prices reflected the age of the baits.  You happened on a color they had some old stock left in and that's why there were multiple prices.

Maybe the shop increases its prices right before a tournament?  (Supply and Demand?)

It's not just that store. I have noticed it at the local bait store here too. I've seen it on everything from bobbers to fishing line, to some baits.

That is also what I think.  Having worked in retail I have seen the owner give the buyer a break and not raise prices on old mdse. when new higher cost inventory comes in.

LOL!

There are several manufacturers that charge different wholesale prices for the same bait depending on color.  Lucky Craft is one as their MS baits cost $1 more wholesale.  Some Reaction Innovations soft plastic colors cost a little more each bag.  Laminated Senkos cost more than standard colors.  ZOOM also charges more for certain special run colors, thus these colors can cost more at the store.

Another factor may be the wholesalers they use.  I have four places to get ZOOM baits and they all have a different price.

Not all retailers want to deal with pricing baits at different prices, so they keep all the prices the same for ease of managing.  Others will have the prices different.
