Braid?  Who has had success?

Featured Replies

I love using braid but I'm starting to wonder if it is affecting my ability to catch more fish.  For those of you that have used it do you feel the same way as me? Or do you have full confidence in braid and use it exclusively?

I am completely confident in it as it gives me more sensitivity. The only thing is, I use a mono or flourocarbon leader so that the braid isn't visible to the fish. Give it a try, I think you'll love it! I'm currently using a double nail knot to connect the lines per the advice of others here.

Thanks.  How long of a leader do you use?

Same here. I normally use a 6' leader. What got me to using the leader was a day's comparison when 6 of us were fishing in the same area so we had the same water clarity. The three guys who had mono kicked some serious butt that day. Unfourtunately, I was one of the braid guys. ;)

6'?  how do you tie on the leader?

This is a good question, as I'm thinking about moving over to braid.

I don't mean to hijack but...........What Lb & brand of Floro leader do us guys use.

Thanks

I have confidence in braids, but I'm not an "exclusivist". I use mono, copolymer, fluoro and braid depending on fish species, technique/lure used.Right now there is another thread going regarding "braids+leaders". Check it out, it's good info !

I use braid w/ mono leader.

I tie a blood knot with a dab of crazy glue for insurance.

I like braid because of the low stretch. Definitly increases sensitivity and hook settng power.

Is there any mono that has no stretch and low memory?

Personally I don't see any great advantage using superlines on anything but an UL spinning reel that I have. And when the line starts getting low it turns around on the spool.

I think it has it's applications.  I use it for C-rigging and slop fishing and that's it.  It's a confidence thing.  I know you can tie on leaders, but IMO that's just one unneeded knot and a place for knot failure.

I tried using the double nail knot to tie the leader to the braid and it keeps slipping.  What am I doing wrong?  Anybody have an online guide for this knot?

I found out what I was doing wrong.  I was only doing one side and not the other.
