Ninja Grass Blade Mounting

Featured Replies

I think I'm going to install the ninja grass blade on my minn kota ulterra. From random google searches, it seems that people have had bad luck with the double sided tape the blade comes with. I was just wondering what others have done.

I'm trying to NOT make it a permanent thing (heavy duty marine epoxy or whatever) because I know that water, time, and weeds will wear down the blade and I'll have to take it off to sharpen it or replace it.

I had one on the autopilot and it was a godsend. I just used the double sided tape it comes with. The key is prepping the surface clean and then giving it 24 hours to properly set before you use it.

I also enver sharpened mine. The design isn't such that absolute sharpness is critical. You need to get the blade as close to the rotating part of the prop as you can without interference and the prop works like a pair of scissors in conjunction with the blade to pinch and cut the grass at the same time.

Moving to the boat, I didn't put another one on. On the autopilot, it was a real problem to get access to the prop because it went through the hull. On the boat I just lift it up, clean it, and drop it back in.

I put one on a couple years ago, used the 3m VHB it came with, no issues. FWIW, I do not put many miles on the motor, although it’s all in the weeds.

If folks are having issues with the blade falling off they made have made installation mistakes.

I had no issues with the 3M tape it came with. Just follow the instructions. I'm on year 4 with them, but also keep my boat garaged.

I also used the double sided tape that came with it it’s been on for a 3 years the one on my last boat was on for 7 years.

Had one on at least eight years. Got a new trolling motor and removed it from the old motor and put it back on with some 3m tape I ordered. Still no problem. You do not have to take it off to sharpen it, just the prop.
