What weight mono/flouro for keepers?

Featured Replies

When companies use a small piece of flouro or mono as a keeper, what weight line do you think it is? Obviously it'll vary but it's thicker than they sell in stores near me.

Measure its diameter with a caliper and compare with published data for various monos. You will be close.

But then I wouldn't get to talk to you. This site is the only social media I allow myself. It was a kind of rough weekend so I'm placating myself a bit.

Have you ever heard the expression "if you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong room"? It also applies in this situation. I want to learn from the members here and sometimes these little questions open into a larger discussion.

Finally... I was also hoping it would lead to a conversation where someone would send me a few feet. I don't really want 300yds of big game saltwater mono.

@MontanaBasser Sounds like you don't have a caliper. My guess is around 40-50 lbs

I personally would use 90 lb Surflon or Sevenstrand. When you bend it it will stay in that shape unlike monoor fluoro. What it is, is stainless steel stranded wire, coated. Below are two charts to show you what the thicknesses are of different surflon, mono and fluoro.

Same. Only social media for me - and my blood pressure has never been lower.
