Rigging large size flukes and soft Jerkbaits

Featured Replies

What size hooks are you all using for larger size soft jerkbaits like 6, 7 and 8 inch Jerk Shadz and Sakamata shads? I can see a time for EWG hooks and Beast style hooks and then jig heads too. What are you are favorite hooks and size? Any jighead to look for?

Thanks

I'm somewhat in the same boat. I have a few large Gammy G-finesse hybrid worm hooks, like 5/0-8/0, that work well, but I think I'd like to give the BKK Motherfluker a shot. I deal with weeds, but often I'm throwing soft jerks over the top so an open hook would open up more rig options and probably a better hookup ratio. There's also the owner range roller xl in 5/0 and mustad ultrapoint in 6/0.

Owner cutting point hooks are what I use for flukes. 5/0 for magnum flukes and Beast hooks in 8/0 for anything 6-8 inches. Anything over 8 I use a 10/0 beat.

I agree with this. If you can get away with it I’d just stroll them overtop of the cover. I know it’s not quite the same as the darting action when rigged weightless but it works no doubt.

I did have some fun fishing a 7” fluke on a Gammy monster EWG last summer. Im pretty sure it was a 5/0.
